This week several of our Adoptee units will receive LIVE Xmas trees, thanks to Dee's Nursery in Oceanside, NY, and DHL Express at JFK Airport in NYC. The two have paired up for 21 years, and DHL has shipped thousands of live trees (and ornaments, letters from local kids and Hannukah specialties) to our Troops in the Middle East, Southwest Asia and the Horn of Africa. Adopt-a-Soldier Platoon is fortunate to have worked with both organizations for 19 years and some of our units every year receive live trees. It was a great day yesterday. In addition to that, thanks to Lisa Fishel-Slater (She/Her/Hers) of The Hershey Company, we presented Kit Kat candy to some of the attendees. Hershey was generous and kind enough to donate lots of wonderful candy which were put in cartons for our Christmas Pack last week. We LOVE our partners and Benefactors!!!! Thanks everyone!!!

This is going to be a bit of a long post and I'm sure it will be met with some negative feedback, but here goes. So often on this platform, I read post from former broadcasters, about "freeing themselves" from the shackles of a business that no longer cares for its communities and eats its young. They advocate for others to join them and finally have a "life you can call your own". Yes; I know. The industry is not what it was when many of us made the decision to join its ranks. And I know as well as anyone the toll the hours, demands and unpredictability of the business can take on your family. Shout out to my husband of 33+ years and two adult children that know no other life with me. But here's the thing, the problem may not be the industry but the people you surround yourself with. Because last week, was one of the most rewarding of my career as a local broadcaster, because I am surrounded by the right people, who are committed to the core values of this calling. What WXII 12 Triad CW did in conjunction with our community partners at Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest NC and the #RedCross to support our neighbors in Western North Carolina is why we should *all* want to be local broadcasters. Our license calls on us to serve in the best interest of our communities. And I am so proud of how we not only served but led the relief efforts here in the Piedmont-Triad. And it's why you have to ask yourself is it the industry or perhaps the people I work for and with? Finally, if you have it in your hearts and wallets to give, please do.
