It’s surprising how often leadership is mistaken for authority. Too many of our “leaders” still believe that power lies in control rather than in empowering those they lead. I've always been a fan of Simon Sinek and he captures it perfectly here: “Leadership is not about being in charge; it’s about taking care of those in your charge.” Real leadership means serving, showing empathy, and lifting others up. When we lead with these values, we don’t just manage- we cultivate trust, loyalty, and a culture where high performance thrives.
I understand the point you are trying to make: authority is often mistaken as leadership.
Definitely. Crazy enough is that some actually go out and get degrees in leadership yet still can't lead.

1moAdrian, I share your views wholeheartedly. I have been blessed to have some amazing leaders on different parts of the spectrum, but I have also came across leaders who are still caught up with this authoritative persona. I am not sure if that personality drives other professionals to work, but I can say resolutely that this leadership style, at least for me, is demotivating and discouraging which causes my outputs to be mediocre at best. When a leader strongly believes in my skills and abilities, their success is fully supported by me and we succeed together!
