The extended illness leading to death makes Alzheimer's a significant public health concern. Much of this time involves severe disability and dependence. Scientists have created methods to compare disease burden across populations, considering not just the number of cases, but also lost years of life and disability-adjusted life years (DALYs). DALYs combine years of life lost due to premature death (YLLs) with years lived with disability (YLDs) for all those affected. These measures highlight Alzheimer's immense burden on patients, families, caregivers, and society as a whole. Furthermore, the burden of Alzheimer's in the United States has risen more sharply than other diseases in recent years. Get in touch with us: https://buff.ly/3DbmnMz #alzheimers #dementia

A: Yes. While estate planning remains an option post-dementia diagnosis, it's essential to act before the disease progresses significantly. As long as your loved one possesses the mental capacity during the document signing, they will hold validity, even if their mental state deteriorates afterward. However, delaying planning with dementia heightens the risk of the plan's validity being challenged. 🧠 Let's talk about Parkinson's Disease (PD) PD is a chronic and progressive illness that affects movement. It is characterized by symptoms such as slowed movements, resting tremors, and walking instability that may lead to falls. PD is more common in older adults, with most symptoms appearing between the ages of 50 and 85, though some may appear earlier. Shockingly, up to 80% of PD patients eventually develop dementia, which usually occurs around 10 years after the initial movement problems surface. 💙 Understanding these facts is key to supporting those affected by PD. ❗️Find resources or help spread the word about Parkinson’s disease by visiting Parkinson's Foundation. #ParkinsonsAwareness #KnowledgeIsPower #ABCsOfPD #WeCare #CarePartners #Dementia #CaregivingJourney #CaregiverSupport #CompassionateCare
