Week 6 has to come with a close Here’s a sneak peek of what I’ve been working on this week! In this project we were tasked with designing and 3d printing a model of an untraditional doorstop that holds the door open at an 135 degree angle or a 90 degree angle One of the challenges I’ve found is here is making a note of the weight of the door and designing a doorstop that. Here are 3 things I wanted to ensure 1. Easy install and removal 2. Form, Fit & Function. Ensuring the material used to print the model wouldn’t prevent the door from being held open or break under the weight of the door and making sure the model would sit flush in between the door frame. 3.Completing the print in under 3 hours That’s all for now . Introducing an elegant solution to one of the biggest challenges in FDM 3D printing - visible external seams. We are thrilled to share with you the progress being made using "scarf joints", inspired by traditional woodworking and metalworking techniques. Michael Laws, in his recent Teaching Tech video on YouTube, showcased the effectiveness of scarf joints in reducing seam visibility on consecutive layers. Other experts such as [psiberfunk/Adam L] and [Noisyfox] have also explored this technique with promising results. What makes scarf joints so remarkable is their simplicity - two tapered ends overlapping to create a seamless joint. While it may not be a foolproof fix, it has shown potential in achieving faster print times and smoother results compared to random seams. But that's not all! From Concept to Reality: Prototyping a Custom Swingarm with 3D Printing When Justin came to us with his vision for a fully custom Triumph Bonneville T100, we knew this project would be something special. At Briggs & Davis, we applied our expertise in 3D printing solutions to create this impressive 52cm swingarm prototype. To meet the challenges of producing such a large and intricate component, we designed a unique joinery system that allowed the swingarm to be printed in sections and seamlessly assembled.
