J. Fetkovich to J. V. Vogel of Shell Oil Co., acknowledges the profound impact of Vogel's article, "Inflow Performance Relationships for Solution-Gas Drive Wells," published in the January 1968 issue of JPT. In this letter, Fetkovich not only expresses his appreciation for Vogel's groundbreaking work but also seeks additional data to extend and validate his own research. This exchange underscores the pivotal role both of these experts played in advancing our understanding of oil well performance and the importance of solution-gas drive mechanisms. 📊 J. V. Vogel: J. V. Vogel was a distinguished figure in reservoir engineering. His pioneering work on inflow performance relationships (IPR) for solution-gas drive wells provided a foundational framework for predicting oil well flow rates. Vogel's 1968 article introduced methods to better understand and predict the performance of wells under different reservoir conditions, which has had a lasting impact on the field. 🔬 M. J. Fetkovich: M. J. Fetkovich is another luminary in the field of reservoir engineering, known for his extensive research and contributions to the understanding of reservoir performance and production optimization. Hello Everyone and thank you for joining us weekly during our live Wed(NSI)days! This week we are excited to welcome Ken Lizak, Completions Advisor at Shell. Ken Lizak will be sharing a presentation titled: Fracturing 30,000 ft Wells in Deepwater, Planning and Execution Learnings from the Gulf of Mexico. Fracturing at 30,000 ft presents many unique challenges. The learnings from over 15 stages pumped at these depths are discussed in detail. Some of the similarities between deep conventional and unconventional reservoirs are contrasted. Many of these deepwater wells consist of low permeability stacked reservoirs. The thickness of these zones, most in excess of 2,500 ft, require multiple stage fractures for economical completions. Discussions cover new work on low friction fracturing fluids and tubular coatings, and improved frac sleeves which may become beneficial to the industry. The issue of highly dipping reservoirs and low frac gradient to overburden windows are presented. Achieving an effective low cost, multistage frac is important in both worlds. While deep water is pressing forward trying to adopt some unconventional technologies, perhaps there are learnings that unconventional completion engineers could consider adapting. As shown from previous post, Rashid/Burulus-JV company has mature gas fields in WDDM (West Delta Deep Marine) are suffering from sharp declining in the gas rate due to presence of active aquifer. In 2006-2008, the company reached to high gas rate (2.2-2.6) BSCFD following by sharp declining in the gas rate since this date. All phases developments, which were conducted did not improve the gas rate performance clearly due to put the phases on maximum reserve gas rate or even gas peak (instant rate never can be sustained) in presence of active aquifer as shown here as example Phase-9B and also we will see in Phase-10 (3 wells were drilled already). So the question is: No lesson learn from all previous history for the phases which were conducted before??!!

The Afina-1x well confirmed impressive oil and gas reservoirs, with the Cenomanian sandstone flowing at a maximum rate of 4500 barrels of oil per day, confirming reservoir productivity and the Turonian sandstone indicating an estimated flow rate potential of up to 12,000 Barrels of oil equivalent per day (boepd). This milestone underscores our growing technical capacity and sets the foundation for commercial development, reinforcing our commitment to leading energy innovation in Africa. #SpringfieldGroup #EnergyLeadership

You could say it’s been a busy week in Alberta energy…Premier Danielle Smith is recapping the week at the annual Canadian Association of Energy Contractors (CAOEC) State of the Industry event. CAOEC’s report gives reason for optimism in the sector in 2025. Key takeaways include: -Best job projections in ten years: Total jobs expected: 41,800 – an increase of 2,720 (7.0%) from 2024 (39,080) PM -Highest levels of drilling activity and associated jobs since 2015 -Projected 2025 wells drilled: 6,604 – an increase of 448 (7.3%) from 2024 (6,156) -Projected 2025 drilling operating days: 69,344 – an increase of 4,706 (7.3%) from 2024 (64,638) -Projected 2025 service operating hours: 1,064,083 – an increase of 52,753 (5.2%) from 2024 (1,011,330)
