In the #Oaxaca clouds lies a pre-Columbian city to rival #ChichénItzá Though it bears a strong resemblance to Chichén Itzá, Mexico’s hilltop complex of Monte Albán pre-dates its Yucatán cousin by 750 years and receives just a fifth of the visitors. Set high above Oaxaca City, it was built by the Zapotecs around 500 BCE but eventually faded into slow obscurity until Leopoldo Batres began excavations in 1902, discovering a trove of important gold and striking pyramids. Alongside Chichén Itzá and the pre-Aztec Teotihuacan ruins outside #Mexico City, Monte Albán is one of the most important pre-Columbian archaeological treasures of Mesoamerica. The site’s strategic hilltop location puts it level with the clouds above Oaxaca’s Central Valleys, and as visitors stroll the grounds they can ponder the astronomical observations made from the site centuries ago. The Zapotec god of rain, Cocijo, was the main deity worshipped here, perhaps because the 400m (1312ft) elevation gives the perfect vantage on any storm clouds moving in. Come on a weekday and it can feel like a place where time has collapsed, far from the busy city below. When to go: Oct–Nov; October marks the start of the dry season, with ideal temperatures and clear skies. Time your trip right (in the lead-up to November 1-2), and you can view the local Day of the Dead altars in Oaxaca City during your stay. . . . . . . #luxurytravelauthority #luxurytravel #luxurytraveler #hiddengem #thursdayhiddengem #travelluxury #busylifestyle #luxuryvacation #takemeaway #letsgetaway #ineedagetaway #overworked #wheretonext #loveluxury #worldexplorer #stressfreetravel #easytravel #liveluxury #travel #weknowtravel

Would one of your biggest fears stop you from going to a destination? I suppose it depends on the fear. But, a fear of heights would not hold me back from visiting Cappadocia in Turkey. It is a destination famous for its hot air balloon rides, which offer breathtaking views of the unique landscapes at sunrise. Apparently, floating over the fairy chimneys and valleys creates a magical experience for tourists casting their gaze across the region from above. However, there’s no way I’m climbing into one of those. MORE THAN MEETS THE EYE This is a destination with a rich history and many sites that will peak your curiosity about ancient cultures and the wonders of the old world. Visitors can explore ancient cave churches, wander through charming villages, explore ancient underground dwellings, and experience beautiful 'otherworldly' landscapes featured in film & tv. Cappadocia has a rich history spanning thousands of years, from civilisations such as the Hittites, Phrygians, Persians, and Byzantines. The region played a crucial role in early Christian history, with many cave churches adorned with stunning frescoes. But did you know the region features two remarkable underground cities named Derinkuyu and Kaymakli? DERINKUYU Derinkuyu is believed to date back to the Hittite period (around 1200 BC) and is the largest excavated underground city in Turkey. It extends to a depth of about 60 meters (c. 197 feet) and could have housed up to 20,000 people. Its multi-level structure includes living quarters, storage areas, stables, and even a church. It was primarily used as a refuge during times of invasion and conflict, with its complex network of tunnels, ventilation shafts, and hidden entrances enabling its inhabitants to evade their enemies. KAYMAKLI Just a short distance from Derinkuyu lies Kaymaklı, another fascinating underground city. While smaller than Derinkuyu, Kaymaklı is equally impressive, with its own network of tunnels, living spaces, and storage facilities. It also features large stone doors that could be rolled into place to block entrances. These two unique underground cities are part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Cappadocia, and - thankfully - a hot air balloon is not going to help you see them. The Corinth Canal, though only completed in the late 19th century, was an idea and dream that’s dates back over 2000 thousand years. It saves the 700-kilometers (430 mi) journey around the Peloponnese! The strip of land that connects the Peloponnese and mainland Greece is called the “Isthmus”. At its narrowest point, it is only 4 miles wide, and in ancient times, one could see from one side to the other. #sailingship #tallship #luxurycruises #smallshipcruises #yachtlifestyle #yachtholiday #romantictravel #dreamsailing #truesailing #luxurysailing #luxurycruises #boutiquecruises #tallshipcruises #greekcruises #luxurysailingmegayacht #luxurysailingcharter #luxuryyachtcharter #luxurysailingboat #superyacht #shipcharter #luxurytravel #travelgreece

Picture a land where the vast expanse of the Atlantic Ocean kisses the lush greenery of the rainforest, a place where nature’s opulence is on full display. Nestled in the northern reaches of Brazil, within the Bahian province, lies a gem where the sun graces the sky year-round, bathing the vibrant foliage in its golden light. This region boasts one of the planet’s most diverse ecosystems, teeming with life—from the smallest microorganisms to majestic whales that grace these waters during their annual migration, pausing to bring new life into the world. In this verdant paradise, endangered species like the golden-headed lion tamarin roam freely, a testament to the thriving biodiversity. Stretching along the coast are pristine beaches with waters of perfect warmth, inviting surfers to ride the waves throughout the year. Hidden within the jungle are waterfalls, trails, and vistas that offer glimpses of hundreds of bird species soaring across the sky—a veritable Eden for nature lovers. Connecting this secluded haven to the wider world are roads leading to iconic destinations like Itacaré and the culturally rich Ilhéus, the birthplace of the world’s finest cacao. Here, in the shade of the Atlantic rainforest, the cacao is cultivated under the cabruca system, yielding some of the best chocolate on Earth. Modern airports serve as gateways to this untouched paradise. But why, you might ask, am I weaving this tale? Because this is Serra Grande, in the municipality of Uruçuca—a place poised to become Latin America’s next great wellness retreat. Serra Grande is not merely a destination; it is a harmonious blend of health, wellness, and the pursuit of longevity. This is not just paradise; it is where the future of well-being begins. The picture ; Mirante Serra Grande , possibly the most incredible view in Bahia . #NatureTravel #WildernessCulture #NatureLovers #Outdoors #ExploreNature #HikingAdventures #WildlifePhotography #EcoTravel
