As a former concert pianist, I never imagined I would become a music educator. But then I discovered Kodály’s philosophy, and it completely reshaped my perspective. He said, “It is much more important who is the music teacher in Kisvarda than who is the director of the opera house in Budapest…for a poor director fails once, but a poor teacher keeps on failing for thirty years, killing the love of music in 30 generations of children.” These words have stayed with me throughout my 12 years in music education. I realized that as a teacher, I have the privilege (and responsibility) to shape how children experience music for a lifetime. It’s not just about teaching notes and rhythms—it’s about sparking a love for music, just as we learn our mother tongue. In a world where we hear about the “lack of audience” and “declining interest” in classical music, I believe the root issue lies in education and society’s approach to the arts. We need creative, human-centered leadership in education and politics to shift our collective mindset. This is why I’m committed to cultivating a community of creative thinkers—where every child, no matter their background or location, can experience the transformative power of music. The future of classical music, and of creativity itself, depends on how we educate and inspire the next generation. #MusicEducation #Kodály #CreativeLeadership #TeachingMusic #SocietyThroughArt #FutureOfMusic #InspireThroughMusic

#HappyChildrensDay !! Hailing from a family of music lovers, singers and instrumentalists, music has been a part and parcel of my life right through my childhood days. A look back at how it has helped me. - #Confidencebuilding : Early music education and an environment that encouraged music listening and singing has helped me develop confidence to perform right through my school days. Singing gigs were my first profession for which I was paid way back in my 7th to 9th grade and I continue to share my knowledge even today through teaching. - #Discipline : Whether it is practice for a performance or a routine, it inculcates discipline. - #Moodbooster : Helps boost my mood and keeps my mind active along with improving #emotional and #analytical abilities. The tune or the raga activates the right brain while the rhythm and the lyrics activates your left brain. - #Resilience : I had and I am facing many hardships when it comes to maintaining good vocal health but the passion for the art makes me to explore, learn and find ways to cope up with those hardships. - #ListeningSkills : Listening is important not just in music but in #communication and #Leadership. Music education helps me to be a better listener. #musiceducation #benefitsofmusiceducation #musiclessonsforkids

Technical expertise versus expression? When we think of amazing musicians we don’t think solely of someone who has the technical skills of a wizard. Without expression music is just sounds in time. How to nurture expression? It starts with interpretation. And this starts when young. A caregiver singing a lullaby whilst rocking the baby to sleep… music to dance to, to make art to, to imagine stories to…These informal musical experiences are the essence of building individual musical understanding. Musical understanding leads to interpretation of pieces. Interpretation enables expression. Music curriculums often include ‘responding’ to music as an important standard. But the ‘how’ is less obvious. Don’t underestimate the importance of quality informal music experiences. What informal music experiences shaped you as a musician? #musicforchildren #musiceducator #musicandcreativity #musiccurriculum

🎹 The Path of Learning Never Ends 🎹 Teaching piano is not just about passing on knowledge; it’s also about continuously evolving as a musician. Teachers who keep studying, performing in concerts, and exploring new methods are in constant growth. Why is this so important? Because music is alive and ever-evolving, with composers creating new works and pushing the boundaries of what can be expressed. 🔑 A teacher who remains active in study and on stage brings freshness and depth to each lesson, sharing with their students the richness of current musical experience. Studying music is not just about learning to play notes; it’s about understanding the soul of music, and this can only be achieved when the teacher is also in continuous learning. 🎶 The passion for teaching goes hand in hand with the passion for continued learning. #Piano #MusicEducation #PianoTeacher #Concerts #MusicalGrowth #Music #PassionForMusic #PianoAcademy

Clara Schumann’s father was a tyrant, but he got one thing right. 🧐 Friedrich Wieck was a pretty beastly fellow. He’d scream at his nine-year-old son practising the violin and say, “You wretch, you scoundrel, is this the way you try to please your father?” It's no surprise that his daughter, Clara, married Robert Schumann the day before her 21st birthday to escape that household! But he did get one thing right. ✅ He was a firm believer in personalised learning, particularly when it came to music education. He had 6 children, but not all 6 became musicians. Some he actually encouraged not to! 😲 But for Clara Schumann, who would later become one of the most distinguished pianists of the Romantic era, he devoted everything to her. He created a bespoke music education plan for her, emphasising the enjoyment of music-making over harsh discipline and drills. Not satisfied with only practical piano, violin, and singing lessons, he also organised for music teachers to cover theory, harmony, composition and counterpoint! An overkill for most people! 😅 But recognising that everyone is unique, capable of learning at different syllabuses at different paces, and has individual learning styles, is fundamental to creating a rounded music education. How can we keep the joy of music as students transition from elementary school singing/music-making to secondary music ensembles? What do you think? These are some of the thoughts I am grappling with: This generation is different, and that is OK. Treating them the same is foolish. We do not need to throw away old methods which are proven to produce results. We need to transition students from the joy of singing a diverse repertoire of songs to the challenge of notation with the steps that are necessary to bring success to every student. https://lnkd.in/dKprWmCa

Research from Youth Music has highlighted the impact of lyrics in helping young people to process emotions and reduce feelings of loneliness. It's a great point about the impact of lyrics on young people's emotional well-being. Providing a safe and supportive space for students to express themselves through music can be incredibly beneficial in helping them process their emotions and combat feelings of loneliness. It's important to create an environment where students feel comfortable sharing their thoughts and feelings without judgment. #SundayReads #OurMLC #MusicLearningCollective Music Teacher magazine: Posts | LinkedIn Music Teacher magazine
