The final session of the day, Making a Difference Through Highways, was presented by Lucy Cox, Framework Manager for Medium Schemes and Professional Services (Interim) at Midlands Highway Alliance Plus, and Katie Burnell, Associate Director for Local Authority Consulting at Amey. Lucy Cox discussed the work of the Social Value Working Group, which aims to standardise social value through a comprehensive Social Value Framework. This framework incorporates an Employment Skills Plan designed to invest in local talent and develop young people's skills. She highlighted that key targets have been met, including young person work placements, graduate opportunities, job creation, and NVQ completion. Katie Burnell focused on the realignment and reallocation of road space, showcasing how road space was reassigned in favour of active travel infrastructure. This initiative successfully created a safer, more accessible, and inclusive city centre area while also creating flexible public spaces. The project saved the council £5 million, enabling those funds to be invested in other areas. Katie concluded by posing an important question to the industry: "How can we do more as an industry to share the impacts we have on communities?" #StrictlyHighways Lucy C.

USAs regering beslutade nyligen att investera 33 miljarder för att: - Build parks on top of, and sometimes below, highways–transforming imposing barriers into inviting places where people can walk, bike, get to the other side of town, or stop and get to know their neighbors in our increasing age of disconnection - Reinvigorate entire neighborhoods–returning car-only spaces to safer, walkable communities - Improve connections to transit–one of the most effective and equitable ways for people to access jobs, healthcare, and all of the opportunities in cities, and - Redesign dangerous streets and boulevards–beginning to solve America’s traffic safety crisis. What if we could boost the capabilities of small businesses in the construction industry. What if we could empower minority owned businesses to a higher level of viability. What if we made it a commitment to remove all objectives that stifle disadvantaged businesses from growing. What if we could unite with likeminded sisters and brothers, agencies and prime contractors for equality. What if we could a find a purpose with allies that help create inclusion in the world of infrastructure. F WHAT If, join the National Hispanic Construction Association of California (NHCA-CA) and be part of a "Movement not Moment" and together let's do away with what ifs. #nationalhispanicconstructionassociationofcalifornia #nhcaca #Turner #Metro #certification #DBE #LGTBQBE #SBE #MBE #infrastucture #constructionindustry #construction

The second stop on Anglian Water’s AMP8 engagement tour was Greater Lincolnshire this week and I had the privilege of supporting them again in presenting the challenges this will present in terms of planning and discussing the potential solutions. The water supply challenge for this part of the region is complex and unique: 🌽 81% of the area is farmed providing 10% of England’s farming output 🛠️ 50 million litres of non-potable water is supplied to industry on the Humber Bank 📈 12% predicted population growth by 2050 💧 41% less water available in 2050 due to climate change, abstraction reductions and population growth It makes for stark reading! £1 billion of focused investment is therefore planned over the next AMP period which will translate to a 482% increase in planning application submissions to the Greater Lincolnshire LPAs over the next 5 years. Collaboration and a thorough understanding of resource requirements is going to be the key to successfully delivering Anglian Water’s largest ever capital infrastructure programme.
This week, we were joined by the Greater Lincolnshire Local Authorities and key stakeholders across our region, at one of a series of events we're hosting to engage local planning authorities in our 2025 to 2030 business plans. Over the next five-year period, we're investing approximately £1billion into Greater Lincolnshire. In the opening keynote speech, our CEO Mark Thurston spoke about the importance of driving growth within the region and pledged to continue the collaborative working relationship we have with the local planning authorities. These events have been incredibly beneficial, and much was learnt on both sides. Collaboration and partnership will be vital over the next five years, as we prepare to deliver our largest ever capital infrastructure programme.
