The spacecraft are due to be deployed before the end of the decade and the contract value amounts to €2.1 billion. Michael Schoellhorn, CEO of Airbus Defence and Space, said: “After the success of the SATCOMBw Stage 2 programme, which we have been delivering since 2009, this latest contract reinforces our strategic partnership with the Bundeswehr, providing them with a greatly enhanced secure milsatcom capability that is future proofed into the 2040s. At a time when Western democracies are challenged and where the European institutional space ecosystem is struggling, we are excited and grateful to develop and build this leading-edge system. Long term partnerships are crucial to guaranteeing essential sovereignty and capability, and protecting our armed forces in the increasingly unstable geo-political environment.” The contract covers the design, integration, test and in orbit delivery of two new Airbus built military GEO telecommunications satellites which are the successor communications satellites to COMSATBw 1B and 2B. It also includes upgrading of the existing ground segment to operate the new satellites as well as operational services for 15 years, with the possibility of extension.

Indian Space Industry at an inflection point #India's space programme has come a long way and has catapulted the nation at the world stage. Space technology ushers in possibilities for the future which are huge and varied and some of these possibilities are yet to be explored. Few would understand that India's success in space technology enhances possibilities of trade and earning of foreign exchange by providing services which are intrinsic with excellence in this domain. #Space industry in India is at an inflection point and private players have started playing an important role to bring it to a level where it can be the leverage India requires for setting benchmarks for the world. Certain joint endeavours by private and public players have given exceptional dividends in the last one year. Successful launch of 72 satellites by #OneWeb through ISRO has boosted the broadband internet services in the country. Indian National Space Promotion and Authorisation Centre (IN-SPACe) has worked to enable and facilitate the participation of private players in the space domain. Indian Space Association, set up for collaborative development of the private space industry in India, facilitated launch of India's first private rocket by #Skyroot Aerospace and establishment of Mission Control Centre by #Agnikul #Cosmos. Launch of the world's first commercial Space Weather Monitoring System by Digantra, the launch by ISRO of Anand hyperspectral satellite of Pixal and collaborative effort of L&T and HAL to improve the efficiency of Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle are some of the giant leaps in space technology that will help India bring in lot of foreign exchange in the days to come. ISRO, through its commercial arms, has already earned $279 million in foreign exchange by launching satellites for global clients, but this is just the tip of the iceberg. According to #Director #General of Indian Space Association, launch of the Shakuntala constellation by Pixxel has bolstered India's Earth observation capabilities and will help in agriculture, disaster management and environmental monitoring. Launch of commercial satellites by India of friendly foreign countries is sure to boost India's clout not only as a regional player in Asia, but also globally. This collaborative effort of the private and public sector is bound to give dividends economically and also usher in prosperity for humanity in general. Congratulations to Life of Soldiers for their partnership with the Space Association.
We're proud to announce that Life of Soldiers is the official media partner for The Indian Space Conclave 2024, taking place from 5-7 Nov at the Manekshaw Centre, New Delhi. ISpA- Indian Space Association Umang Kohli #Space

I had the great fortune of recently joining a panel during the MILSAT Symposium. We discussed multi-orbit and mission satellites and how these trends impact military space operations. My main focus revolved around the recent trend that has been labeled by US Space Force leaders as Dynamic Space Operations. Joint Operating Concepts such as maneuver and logistics have increasingly become important on how we view space warfare. Satellites being energy neutral is becoming a thing of the past with the desire to develop on-orbit refueling and maintenance/sustainment of space systems. This makes multi-orbit and multi-mission satellites increasingly important. This also highlights the necessity of reassessing how ground stations (SDA and C2) support space maneuver. At L3Harris Technologies, we challenge ourselves to be thought leaders who analyze trends, address challenges, and provide our customers with recommendations that meet the nation's national security needs.
