Schönefeld, Germany ✈️
The ILA Berlin Air Show, which dates back to 1909, starts today and runs until June 9th.
The event brings the world's aerospace and defence industry to the heart of Europe, every two years. Industry representatives, politicians, armed forces and academics gather at Berlin's Schoenefeld Airport for an air show focusing on the themes of innovation, new technologies and sustainability.
Reflecting the theme of this year's event - #PioneeringAerospace – our members Airbus and Rolls-Royce, will demonstrate their commitment to a more sustainable and advanced air mobility, and showcase their latest innovations.
Among them, a new model of medium-haul aircraft developed by Airbus, that run on sustainable aviation fuels while reducing their overall carbon footprint.
On average, SAF can reduce CO2 emissions by 80% compared to traditional jet fuel. This substantial reduction is crucial to the industry’s progress towards decarbonization.
However, the SAF ecosystem is in its infancy and many challenges are delaying its uptake. A massive increase in production is required as well as appropriate regulatory mechanisms and inventive structures. Collaboration between the various players at a global scale is, once again, essential.
The New Energies Coalition set up a working group led by Rolls-Royce and with the contribution of Airbus and other valuable of our members, aiming at better understanding how to reach 100% SAF, particularly for e-fuels, including technical feasibility, costs, deployment potential, and sustainability.
Stay stuned for more info regarding this study.

🚀 Excited to share my incredible experience at ILA Berlin! For all aerospace and aeronautics enthusiasts, here are some key takeaways from the event:
-> Networking is Key: Attending expos like ILA Berlin is crucial for building connections. If industry professionals remember your name, it can ease your application process.
-> Make New Connections: Engage in conversations about your interest areas and brand yourself. This helps you gain core insights and trends in the field. The ILA Berlin app's networking feature was invaluable.
I connected with Florian Gabel and Hans-Peter Dahm from TGM Lightweight Solutions GmbH. They're doing phenomenal work in technical weight management, lightweight design concepts, FE optimization, and more.
-> Track Industry Directions: Observe the path companies are heading, like sustainability. Harness their ideas and stay updated on their projects.
Rudy Cepeda Gomez shared with us his valuable insights on developing control and monitoring strategies for electric and hybrid-electric drives at DLR Institute of Electrified Aero Engines.
-> Skill Development: Identify and work on the skills needed for your career. Absorb as much knowledge as you can from these events.
-> Application Insights: Learn specific tips for job applications.
As Veronique Koestlin a Senior Talent Acquisition Partner from Airbus Defense and Space emphasized keeping CVs simple and to the point, highlighting key job requirements. Remember, recruiters spend about 20 seconds scanning each application—use keywords and keep it to one page.
-> Boost Your Morale: These events can be a great morale booster. They can also redirect your attention to new startups looking for the right candidates, especially in challenging market conditions.
Attending ILA Berlin has been immensely beneficial, and I highly recommend it to anyone in the field.

#Aviation is being transformed - perhaps even disrupted - with rapid progress towards advanced air mobility solutions (for example, electric #drones for cargo and passengers), and a big push towards #sustainability. New players are entering the sector at a rapid rate, and the future is going to look very different to the past and present.
I put this two-part panel session together with the aim of teasing out what that future might look like (with half of my colleagues, we're going to tackle the scenario of "The Jetsons meets the #AI-enabled 21st century"), and with the other half, we'll demonstrate on stage an approach to grappling with the disruptions that might be coming over the horizon - akin to the strategic thinking I help facilitate for INSEAD Executive Education.
The ultimate goal : to encourage systems / ecosystem and "what if" and "what's new" thinking in the aeronautics community. It's going to be a creative and innovative way to kick off #AIAAaviation!
We are two weeks away from this year's #AIAAaviation Forum!
One of the sessions we are excited about is Executive Panel - The View from 50,000 Feet, where prominent industry leaders will share their perspectives on the health of the aviation industry, highlight the successes from the past year, and outline the challenges we are facing. They will look at the impact of a convergence of technologies that will reshape the next generation of aviation.
Join us for the forum to hear this session’s impressive speakers:
Russell Boyce, AIAA Aeronautics Domain Lead
Oscar Garcia, InterFlight Global
Keoki Jackson, MITRE
Dr. Vivek Lall, General Atomics Global Corporation
Nick Lappos, Sikorsky
Linda Cadwell Stancin, Lockheed Martin
Alejandra Uranga, Electra.aero
Micah Walter-Range, Caelus Foundation
robert whittington, Amazon Prime Air
Dr. Michael Winter, Pratt & Whitney
