Happy Earth Day! 🌎✈️ Leggett & Platt Aerospace’s Nanterre and Samer branches are proud to be working closely with Airbus to develop a hydrogen propelled plane, a project called ZEROe. This project aims to reduce carbon emissions generated by air transport. Two solutions have been adopted: one uses hydrogen to either power a fuel cell or as an engine fuel, and the other uses hydrogen as a fuel. L&P Aerospace’s Nanterre and Samer branches sent samples of welded and seamless tubes for this project. 👏 Mathias Andriamisaina, Airbus ZEROe Demonstrator Leader stated, “The A380 MSN1 is an excellent flight laboratory platform for new hydrogen technologies. The Clean Aviation Annual Forum in Brussels in March 2024 marked the conclusion of the European aviation research programme Clean Sky 2 (2013-2024) and its continuation under the title Clean Aviation. Over the past ten years, industry and research partners, including the German Aerospace Center (Deutsches Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt; DLR), have conducted intensive research into climate-friendly air transport technologies in a wide range of projects as part of Clean Sky 2. 🌟 Collaborating for Progress: A Milestone for DYN-MARS 🌟 I’d like to say “THANK YOU!” to everyone in the DYN-MARS consortium, with special recognition to the Advisory Board members and stakeholders who joined us for our first DYN-MARS stakeholder workshop on 10th September. Your participation and insights have been invaluable! A special shout-out to the air traffic controllers and pilots who took part in our virtual workshop on 27th August. Your perspectives from the field are crucial to refining our research and developing meaningful solutions. 🛫👨✈️👩✈️ We intentionally ran this first stakeholder consultation workshop ahead of our exercises to ensure that our concepts and methodology were sound. The workshop successfully presented the methodology, concept, and approach to be used in DYN-MARS. Stakeholder feedback was invaluable, not only in refining these elements but also in generating ideas for incentivising further development and implementation of the concepts identified to minimise environmental impact in the Terminal Manoeuvring Area (TMA). We thank the participants for their active engagement before and during the workshop, which allowed us to modify and fine-tune our approach. Several insightful comments were made about additional aspects where the DYN-MARS solution could have a positive impact, providing exciting opportunities for further exploration. At its core, DYN-MARS – Dynamic Management of Aircraft and Configuration and Route Structures – is about finding the sweet spot between fuel and noise optimisation, and we’re well on our way to achieving that balance. After a first flight in May another 26 flights were flown at Aeroporti di Puglia in Grottaglie (Italy), with our scaled version of a large passenger aircraft with distributed electric propulsion. 📽 ✈ The dynamics of the aircraft was measured and two control algorithms using asymmetric thrust were tested. Part of the manoeuvres were flown with the remote human pilot in the ground station controlling the aircraft with control surfaces and through differential thrust (meaning the motors on the left and the right side have different rotation speed). We learned a lot about the technology! The project contributes to the objective of the Clean Sky 2 programme of the European Commission in which Airbus, ONERA - The French Aerospace Lab, CIRA - Italian Aerospace Research Centre, TU Delft | Aerospace Engineering, Orange Aerospace.-, and NLR collaborate. #scaledflightdemonstrator #SFD #innovation #aerospace

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is inviting input to help the agency shape the development of its Center for Advanced Aviation Technologies (CAAT), a hub designed to accelerate the integration of #advancedairmobility (AAM) and other emerging aviation technologies into the #NationalAirspaceSystem (NAS). One of its main tasks is establishing an #airspace laboratory and #flight demonstration zones to test and validate #AAM operations and technologies.
