Is your packaging leaving a lasting impression or a lasting impact? 🌍 David Popa’s latest work at the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Hegra is a striking example of how art can coexist with nature. Using only natural materials like earth, chalk, and charcoal, Popa’s masterpiece is a reminder that creativity and sustainability can indeed go hand in hand. This ethos is just as vital in packaging. 📦 As we push towards more sustainable practices, it’s crucial to reflect on whether our packaging solutions are aligned with the same principles. Here are a few key guidelines to consider when designing your next packaging: ♻️ Opt for compostable or plant-based materials ♻️ Design for reuse and repurposing ♻️ Reduce packaging size to minimise waste ♻️ Incorporate carbon-neutral production methods How are you integrating sustainability into your packaging? Let’s discuss the steps you’re taking to meet your goals. 👇

Since my certification as a Cradle to Cradle Design consultant in 2011 together with Eric Pfromm, we've been navigating the complexities of material recirculation into the production system. Here at the Circular Design Hub Hamburg, this remains a significant challenge. Acknowledging the Challenges The difficulties associated with material recirculation should not be disregarded. The industry's lack of preparedness and other obstacles are real and pressing. However, instead of focusing solely on these issues, we must proactively seek solutions and sometimes accept these challenges as part of our reality. Focusing on Solutions and Opportunities Rather than dwelling on the problems, we should concentrate on overcoming or circumventing these obstacles. This mindset allows us to harness the opportunities presented by the Circular Economy, even if it means working within certain limitations. Exploring Circular Economy Principles Our ultimate goal is to explore and implement the principles and opportunities of the Circular Economy. Material recirculation plays a crucial role in this endeavor. By embracing this challenge and devising innovative solutions, we can significantly contribute to a more sustainable future. Long-Term Benefits Change is seldom straightforward, but the long-term benefits of a circular economy for our industry and the environment are immense. Let's continue to push forward, innovate, and make a lasting impact! #CircularEconomy #Sustainability #CradletoCradle #CircularDesign #Innovation #SustainableFuture

Eco-design is a necessary approach to ensure our sustainable transition, and more and more manufacturers are adopting it. But behind the label "Eco-designed," what does it actually mean? For instance, take a manufacturer of building materials like Saint-Gobain, does an eco-design approach mean that the glass composition has been altered to include more recycled materials and reduce energy-intensive processes? And where should we draw the line to meet customer needs and ensure the product remains appealing? These are the kinds of questions Marie Dufour considered when developing the "Eco-design" course for the Climate School, aimed at companies, six months ago. What she discovered is that there are complex and multifaceted realities behind this term: design and production choices must truly reduce our environmental footprint; it is crucial to ensure that eco-design efforts do not turn into mere marketing claims; we must verify that the gains achieved are not canceled out by overconsumption… and much more. We invite you to explore all this in this new course, which offers tools to understand and manage trade-offs, insights into how to integrate eco-design into a global approach, and practical case studies shared by manufacturers and experts in the field. A big thank you to everyone who made this course possible: Helene Teulon, Emmanuelle KOBIALKA, Xavier Vital, Dariusz Krzysztof GĄSIOREK, Stefan Koenig, Olivier Ledru, Claire Bottineau, Christophe Lelyon,Véronique Andriès, Alice Fruchart, Victor Beauchef, Florence Baitinger and of course, Pascal EVEILLARD for his insights on the importance of having a dedicated project manager to achieve an eco-designed production.
