On World Sustainable Transport Day, we’re proud to spotlight one of AFEC's key projects: The Wayfinding Centre This transformative development repurposed a 30,000 sq ft factory and warehouse into an innovative mobility and transport training facility, thoughtfully designed to provide a safe, controlled environment for individuals with disabilities. More than just a facility, the centre serves as a vital bridge connecting the community, transport, and disability sectors, as well as government and academia - championing meaningful change and fostering greater inclusion. AFEC proudly oversaw this Design and Build project from concept to completion. Our role encompassed client collaboration, design team coordination, contractor communication, and rigorous on-site inspections to ensure seamless execution, high standards, and timely delivery. Together, we’ve advanced the vision of a more inclusive and sustainable future♿ #SustainableTransport #InclusionMatters #TheWayfindingCentre #ProjectDevelopment #WorldSustainableTransportDay

🌈 Let's make the world a more inclusive place! 🌟 ✨ Accessibility is not just about ramps and braille markings—it's about creating a world where everyone can access information, services, and opportunities without barriers. 💪 🌟 Let's challenge ourselves to think beyond physical accommodations and consider how we can make our digital spaces more accessible to all. 💻 ✨ Every small change we make towards greater accessibility has the power to create a ripple effect of inclusivity and empowerment. 🌍 💭 So, let's ask ourselves: Are we truly designing with accessibility in mind? And if not, what steps can we take to ensure that everyone has equal access to the resources and experiences we provide? 💡 ✨ Together, let's build a future where accessibility is not a privilege, but a fundamental right. 🌟 #Accessibility #InclusionMatters #EmpowerAll #DesignForAll

What would accessible transport mean you could do? We want to know your answer to that question. It might mean that you could apply for a dream job, have a spontaneous day out or just get to the shop at the end of your road. Or it might be much bigger than that. It might mean you could feel that society has acknowledged your needs are important. As part of the National Centre for Accessible Transport (ncat), we are building membership of its CAT panel - the Community of Accessible Transport - and we want to make sure it represents the broadest range of disabilities and lived experiences. These are essential in informing transport design for the future. Please share that message today and help us give a voice to disabled people. 🌱🚶♂️🚴♀️ Building Sustainable Cities: Empowering Children's Independent Mobility 🌍🏙️ As we strive towards sustainable cities, it's imperative to focus on sustainable transportation systems, especially those that prioritize the safety and autonomy of the most vulnerable users. SDG 11.2 underscores the need for safe transportation, particularly for vulnerable populations. Imagine a city where children can move freely, without the constant need for adult supervision. It's not just a dream – it's a goal we can achieve by redesigning our transportation networks with children in mind. 🔍 Understanding the Key Aspects: To create child-friendly transportation networks, we must focus on improving the neighborhood level infrastructure. The project's core aim is to develop a framework for neighborhood planning that fosters Children’s Independent Mobility (CIM). This involves assessing various attributes of a neighborhood that influence CIM, with a particular emphasis on parents' perceptions. 🔑 Importance of Parental Perception: Parents play a pivotal role in granting mobility licenses to children. Depending on their perception of the neighborhood and the built and social environment, these licenses can be affected. Hence, understanding parental perceptions through a comprehensive questionnaire is crucial. 🚸 What is Children’s Independent Mobility (CIM)? CIM refers to the freedom of children to travel independently within their neighborhood, whether alone, with friends, or siblings under the age of 18, primarily by walking or cycling. 📍 Defining the Neighborhood: For the purpose of this project, a neighborhood is defined as an area within an 800-meter pedestrian network buffer around each child's home. This definition helps us focus our efforts on the immediate environment where children live and move. 🌟 Empowering Future Generations: By prioritizing Children’s Independent Mobility in neighborhood planning, we're not just building safer and more sustainable cities; we're also empowering future generations with the confidence and freedom to explore their surroundings independently. 📢 Calling All Parents! If you're a parent of at least one child below 18 years of age, we invite you to share your valuable insights by filling out this questionnaire: [Link](https://lnkd.in/gaHcMsHC). Your feedback will help shape the future of transportation networks for our children. Please share this link with your network to amplify our impact! Together, we can make a difference. #SustainableCities #ChildFriendlyTransportation #SDG11 #MobilityForAll 🌱🚶♂️🚴♀️

Designing Dignity: Embracing Inclusivity in Public Restrooms In our rapidly aging society, inclusivity isn’t just a buzzword—it’s an essential design principle that ensures dignity for all. Today, we’re spotlighting the transformative initiative by Active Aging to convert standard toilets into Accessible Changing Rooms (ACRs), championing the cause of accessibility for individuals with diverse needs. Imagine public restrooms where flexibility meets functionality—where every individual, regardless of their physical abilities, can use facilities safely and comfortably. That’s what ACRs are all about. They feature height-adjustable equipment that caters to wheelchair users and others who require assistance. But why should we care? Because inclusivity in design reflects our values as a society. It’s about acknowledging that everyone has the right to move through public spaces with ease and dignity—whether they’re aging gracefully or living with disabilities. Let’s rally together to support this cause because when we design for inclusivity, we uplift entire communities. It’s time to transform our public restrooms into spaces that truly cater to everyone. Together, let’s make inclusivity more than just an intention—let’s make it our reality #InclusiveDesign #AccessibleRestrooms #AgingGracefully #DignityForAll #UniversalDesign #AccessibilityMatters #InclusiveSociety #PublicRestroomRevolution #AgeFriendlyCities #BarrierFreeLiving #EmpathyInDesign #SupportiveCommunities #AdaptiveEquipment #MobilityAwareness #ActiveAgingInitiative #ChangeForGood #AccessibleToiletsForAll #DesignWithPurpose #ElevateAccessibility #CommunityInAction
