Today marks the beginning of the long anticipated 1847 campaign for YesLiberia, Inc. The team has worked tirelessly to develop and plan for this. When I first started working with this non-profit, I was amazed about what I didn't know about Liberia. The history is rich and intriguing. Here is a quick history lesson 😉 1847 is the year that Liberia was emboldened to take it's freedom. Liberia, founded in 1822, was originally an outpost for returning free slaves from America. It wasn't until 25 years later that Liberians felt empowered to claim its independence. That feeling of empowerment from 1847 still remains today. And YesLiberia is a main player in keeping that feeling alive! They offer access to education and leadership development to children who would otherwise be forgotten. Real incident. The class was full of keen and attentive students. An interesting session was underway. A real life and real time task was assigned to them. They were supposed to go out and collect donations from others towards a social cause of their choice. A lot of appreciable effort was put in by students resulting in handsome collections. But ... A few students worked and collected donation amount .. assuring donors that " Your amount will be returned to you .. since this is just an exercise assigned to us in our class." These students assumed this was not a real life and real time exercise. They just complied with it superficially, without committing to it by understanding the real purpose behind doing this exercise. At the end of this exercise these students realised .. " Whom are we trying to fool if not ourselves .. ? " Lesson: Learning stops when you resort to short cuts. #Learning #Growth #RealLife #Commitment #Success #Application #ExecutionExcellence
