As National Donate Life Month approaches, I find myself deeply reflective and overwhelmingly grateful. This month isn't just a period on the calendar; it's a profound celebration of life, a time to honor the selfless donors and their families whose decisions have made life possible for many, including myself. I am here today, able to share this message, because of an extraordinary act of kindness—a decision made by a donor and their family during an unimaginably difficult time. Their generosity gave me a second chance at life, and words cannot express the depth of my gratitude. They are heroes in the truest sense, embodying compassion and selflessness. National Donate Life Month is an opportunity for us all to recognize and appreciate the gift of life that organ donation represents. It's a time to celebrate the lives saved, to acknowledge the ongoing need for organ donors, and to inspire others to consider becoming a part of this life-affirming process. Becoming an organ donor is a simple yet impactful decision. By registering as a donor, you have the power to save up to eight lives through organ donation and enhance many more through tissue donation. Moreover, living donation offers another profound opportunity to change lives, allowing individuals to donate a kidney or a part of the liver to someone in need. If you've ever considered becoming a donor—whether living or at the end of life—I encourage you to take the next step. Learn more, talk with your family, and register your decision. Your choice to become an organ donor can turn a time of loss into a time of hope for others. In this month of celebration and reflection, let's spread awareness, share our stories, and continue to build a legacy of generosity and hope. Together, we can save lives and honor those who have made our second chances possible. #NationalDonateLifeMonth #CelebrateLife #OrganDonation #LivingDonation #DonateLife

Here is a fundamental truth about fundraising: donors don’t give to support your organization, they give to make the world a better place through your organization. Few nonprofits understand this based on how much they talk about themselves. They write things like “please support us” or “give to help us” instead of “please support these children” or “give to see more homeless fed.” Giving is about who you serve.

The data is in! Compared to last year, total giving in Q1 has increased 4.1%, according to a recent report by the Fundraising Effectiveness Project, a collaboration between GivingTuesday and Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP Global). This report, based on data from many organizations, also showed a 1.3% decline in the overall number of donors, however, this is a much smaller decline than the -10.3% experienced in 2022, suggesting a reversal in the trend.
