Great news from Ghana! Ghana inaugurates Africa's largest floating solar photovoltaic (PV) project. A growing number of such systems exist in China, France, Indonesia, India, Japan, South Korea, the United Kingdom, Singapore, Thailand, and the United States. Floating solar is a type of 'Offshore Solar' energy which also includes fixed-bottom foundations. A study from Lappeenranta University of Technology stated that 6,300 TWh of extra electricity could be produced every year from floating solar on hydropower reservoirs worldwide if covering just 25 percent of the water surface. #ghana #westafrica #renewalsenergy #offshoresolar #greenenergy #blueeconomy #satalks #eni #floatingsolar #HR #humancapital #hrbusinesspartner

Over the past ten years, investments in renewable energy across Africa have seen significant growth. The International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), in collaboration with the African Development Bank, reported a tenfold increase in the average annual investments in renewable energy, from less than USD 0.5 billion in the period 2000-2009 to USD 5 billion in 2010-2020. Despite this impressive growth, it's important to note that only 2% of global investments in renewable energy over the last two decades were made in Africa. Renewable energy deployment has added more than 26 gigawatts (GW) of generation capacity to the African continent in the last decade, with solar energy seeing the largest additions. However, there's a regional disparity in investment and development. Sub-Saharan Africa, for example, still had an electrification rate of 46% in 2019, with a significant number of people lacking access to clean cooking fuels and technologies. Understanding the full scope of Africa's renewable energy potential is not just an academic exercise—it's a crucial step towards realizing a sustainable future. At ARK (Africa Renewables Katalyst), we are convinced that Africa has the potential to become an energy utopia. This vision can be achieved by harnessing our abundant renewable resources to their fullest extent, transforming our energy landscape into one that is not only self-sustaining but also a beacon of innovation and sustainability for the world.
