Female partner takeover in honor of IWD!  🎯 Hear from our amazing Managing Partner, Merav Rotem Naaman: This Friday marks International Women's Day globally. Normally, I'd be highlighting the strides we've made in women's rights and the very long road still ahead of us. Not this year. Israel faces unprecedented challenges. The events of October 7th have cast a long shadow, particularly for the women still held captive, their suffering compounded by a deafening silence from many global women's organizations. This silence feels like a betrayal at a time when their voices are needed the most. It's incomprehensible that in today's world, any justification exists for the rape and torture of women, men, and children, much less from groups dedicated to protecting women's rights. At the same time, I am compelled to recognize the resilience of Israeli women. Since October 7th, 2023, they've demonstrated extraordinary courage and leadership, not just on the front lines but also within our communities, rallying to support civilians and those in need during these turbulent times. Their actions have dispelled any remaining doubts about their capabilities, proving they are formidable in every aspect of life. It's crucial to remember: women bear the heaviest burdens at times of war. Women in Israel and women in Gaza are shouldering this weight right now. However, my hope is that women will also lead the way in ending this cycle of violence. History shows us that women have played significant roles in concluding conflicts and promoting peace, from the Four Mothers in Israel to Betty Williams and Mairead Corrigan in Northern Ireland. I hold onto the hope that women will again be instrumental in finding a way to bring back the captives and end the war. Today, I choose to honor the incredible spirit of women. Happy International Women's Day! Today marks a time to reflect on progress made, to call for change and to celebrate acts of courage and determination by ordinary women, who have played an extraordinary role in the history of countries and communities. In particular, we commemorate and recognise the role of women in delivering justice and peace, and also the women who are on the front-line of humanitarian crisis, including the war in Ukraine. Here at Chernobyl Children International, we celebrate being a female-led organisation, under the guidance of Voluntary CEO Adi Roche, and we are proud to work with some truly inspirational female leaders who work tirelessly to create change. We would like to thank these women for their guidance, their courage, and their bravery to guarantee that results are achieved. Change isn’t just about big headline moments, legal victories and international agreements: the way we talk, think and act every day can create a ripple effect that benefits everyone. Every victory that we have as women brings something else on, and the torch is handed from one woman to another. It’s that torch-bearing that has helped women to carry this movement on into the future. #IWD24

This year's theme for IDUAI 2024 is: "Mainstreaming Access to Information and Participation in the Public Sector." Access to information is a fundamental human right. FWWB has been tirelessly working towards bringing access to information through its capacity-building workshops by addressing the Gender Digital Divide. Our continuous and consistent work gives us hope for a future where the digital gap is bridged, and women are empowered with digital skills and access to technology. Happy International Women's Day! Today, let's celebrate the extraordinary women who have made a lasting impact on our lives through their resilience and commitment to global peace. Last year, I defended my dissertation, which centered on the critical role of women's resilience in enhancing national security. My research shed light on the transformative impact women have made since the adoption of United Nations Security Council Resolution (UNSCR) 1325 on Women, Peace, and Security. This framework resolution not only recognized the unique challenges women face during conflicts but also the significant role women play in peace processes and security policy-making. Women have consistently shown a strong commitment to disarmament, country stability, and peace. Their approach to conflict resolution is inherently tied to the well-being of their communities, emphasizing empowerment and reconciliation. There's compelling evidence that when women participate in negotiations, the likelihood of reaching an agreement increases significantly. Their perspectives and strategies often focus on long-term stability rather than short-term victories, which is crucial for lasting peace. Yet, despite these contributions, women remain underrepresented at negotiation tables. It is not just a matter of equity—women deserve to be meaningfully represented because their involvement leads to more durable and inclusive peace solutions. Women's voices are essential in crafting policies and agreements that truly address the needs and rights of all community members. As we celebrate International Women's Day, let's advocate for and commit to ensuring a world where women's contributions to peace and security are not just welcomed but seen as indispensable.
