Deakin University - Request for (non-clinical) placement host organisations Deakin University requires non-clinical placements for students from undergraduate and postgraduate health courses such as Public Health and Health Promotion, Health Sciences, Nutrition and Exercise Science, and Psychology for Trimester 2 (July - September) 2024. The types of tasks/projects that students can undertake while on placement vary significantly, and will depend on your organisation's needs and the student's area of study. Some examples of suitable health-related placement projects for students include: • Conducting a literature review, collating and analysing relevant data • Researching and preparing documentation for a funding submission • Evaluating and reporting on the efficacy of a program • Assisting with the delivery of direct service programs to individuals and groups in the community • Assisting with the planning, implementation and evaluation of a specific event, program or intervention • Conducting a needs assessment, involving key members of the community and stakeholders • Developing a new printed or web-based resource to market the organisation’s services • Designing and implementing a social media campaign, including writing blogs and posts • Designing and implementing a survey, focus group or data collection with a particular population/target group Please reach out to Deakin University on health-wil@deakin.edu.au if you're able to host students.

As I approach graduation with my Master’s in Public Health, I find myself reflecting on the challenges of transitioning into the next phase of my career in clinical research. The excitement of reaching this milestone is bittersweet, as the journey has not been without its hurdles. Navigating this competitive field and facing the reality of limited job opportunities in research has been tough. It can feel like a constant uphill battle, but I remain hopeful that the skills I’ve gained and the experiences I’ve had will open doors eventually. For anyone else in this position, I see you. The journey may be uncertain, but we’re all working towards something greater.
