Africa Urban Lab reposted this
Hongera Sana to our friends, our partners African School of Economics Zanzibar & Africa Urban Lab on this historic day. It was a pleasure to welcome your distinguished group of students, staff and teachers to the IIT Madras Zanzibar Campus We are so excited about the changing face of education that we are seeing right in front of our eyes. Kurtis Lockhart & team, take a bow!
🚨🚨BIG MILESTONE🚨🚨 Today marks the first day for the first-ever students at the Africa Urban Lab (AUL), a new cities-focused research center at African School of Economics Zanzibar! We welcomed ~40 students from all over Africa to our Professional Diploma in Urban Development (https://lnkd.in/eXCRnjps). Our cohort includes mayors, deputy mayors, directors at planning ministries, town planners, more early career urban professionals, and others. The 56% of humanity living in cities produces 80% of global GDP (taking up only 0.69% of global land mass). Global rural GDP per capita: $6,402 Global urban GDP per capita: $20,123 Cities are an incredibly efficient way to organize human beings. The AUL seeks to train the African city builders, planners, and urban leaders of tomorrow to harness the continent's cities for human prosperity. And we couldn't be more excited to welcome the first of these city builders to the AUL!! 🌆
It's amazing to see the focus on quality education by TZ, and engagement initiatives by IIT Madras. Proud to see such brilliant contribution by an Indian institute, enabling an emerging economy.
