In line with the privatization act of 2023 being declared unconstitutional it exposes new risks to the development of port infrastructure in Kenya, even with the recent developments on the public private partnerships adopted have been a major boost in enhancing the productivity at the Kenyan ports. However the already existing intergovernmental initiatives under LAPSET and northern corridor development projects offer a buffer on stalling of the development agenda. The historical debate on whether port infrastructure and superstructure development should be left to the private entities or the public interest in this facilities override the private interests are yet to play out. And today as we celebrate the World maritime day we have to remember that ports are engines economic development and in the future of both national development and regional development requires collaboration between public and private sectors.

The consistency, transferability, cost-effectiveness, and viability of the skill acquired can affect the outcome. Except for the incentive involved in the relationship, the people involved expect more work with a better incentive. If the present work offer is organized in chains of activities in the future, that is marvelous. If there is no plan for the future direction, the existing unemployment will double. The double barrel kill for the economy is to focus on working in rural agroindustry where permanency and consistency can be guaranteed. Good tourism can only thrive through the development of native tourists. Foreign tourists can contribute but can never replace the consistent market of local tourism.

You may agree or disagree with the Corridor Development Project in Ethiopia, but setting aside politics and publicity, the level of discipline, commitment, and perfection demonstrated by the workers daily is truly inspiring. It's rare to see such dedication in a country where many projects are short-lived. Here's hoping this one proves to be an exception.
