Galp has successfully discovered light oil and gas condensate in Namibia's Orange Basin, building on its previous exploration campaign in license PEL 83. The recent Mopane 1-A appraisal well, drilled by Saipem's Santorini drillship, encountered high-quality reservoir sands, confirming the extension and quality of previous finds. As an operator with an 80% stake, Galp, alongside partners NAMCOR and Custos, will continue exploration and appraisal activities, including a high-resolution 3D seismic campaign set to begin in December 2024. Custos Energy (Pty) Ltd., a Namibian independent oil and gas exploration company, has announced successful results from its second exploration and appraisal campaign on blocks 2813A and 2814B in Namibia's Orange Basin. The Mopane-1A appraisal well encountered light oil and gas-condensate in high-quality reservoir-bearing sands, confirming the extension and quality of the AVO-1 discovery. 'The continuing progress on PEL 83, including the results from the Mopane-1A appraisal well, further unveil the potential and quality of the Mopane complex,' said Knowledge Katti, Chairman and CEO of Custos. The initial two-well exploration campaign in Q1 and Q2 2024 resulted in multiple discoveries of significant columns of light oil, with an estimated original oil in place of 10 billion barrels of oil equivalent. A drill stem test yielded an infrastructure-constrained flow of 14,000 boe/d, positioning Mopane as a potentially important commercial discovery. 'The results from the Mopane-1A appraisal well mark another significant milestone for Namibia's energy sector,' said Maggy Shino, Petroleum Commissioner, Ministry of Mines and Energy for Namibia. The joint venture partners, including Galp Energia, NAMCOR, and Custos, will continue analyzing the data and progress with additional exploration and appraisal wells, and a high-resolution 3D seismic campaign set for December 2024. #oilandgas #namibia #exploration #appraisal #discovery @custosenergynamibia @galpenergia @namcor_namibia

ReconAfrica announces increase in prospective oil resources in Namibia Reconnaissance Energy Africa Ltd. (ReconAfrica), an oil and gas exploration company, has released an updated prospective resource estimate for the Damara Fold and Thrust Belt Area in Namibia. The estimate, supported by a Prospective Resource Report prepared by independent evaluator Netherland, Sewell & Associates, Inc. (NSAI), reveals an increase in oil potential in the area. According to the report, the identified prospects in the Damara Fold and Thrust Belt Area hold gross, unrisked prospective oil in place of 15.4 billion barrels, with gross, unrisked prospective oil resources totaling 3.1 billion barrels. These estimates are higher than the previous report, which only focused on prospective natural gas resources. ReconAfrica’s President and CEO, Brian Reinsborough, emphasized the significance of the findings, noting that the presence of liquid hydrocarbons has been confirmed through analysis of core samples from previously drilled wells. The company’s Senior Vice President of Exploration, Chris Sembritzky, expressed excitement for the upcoming drilling campaign in both the Damara Fold and Thrust Belt Area and the Rift plays. #oil #namibia #discoveries #onshore Ndapewoshali Shapwanale Namibia Petroleum Operators Association (NAMPOA) WOGEN Namibia Namibia Investment Promotion and Development Board (NIPDB) https://lnkd.in/dNKUnff2

The Critical Role of Seismic Exploration in Successful Drilling Operations The recent news from the Kazakh sector of the Caspian Sea serves as a poignant reminder of why seismic exploration and its quality are vital in the energy industry. A joint venture between Italy's Eni and Kazakhstan's state-owned oil and gas company, KazMunayGaz, faced an unfortunate outcome when their exploratory drilling at the Abay-1 wildcat reached a depth of 2,500 meters, only to yield a dry well. Despite significant investments, no commercial hydrocarbons were discovered. This result underscores the immense challenges and high stakes involved in offshore oil and gas exploration, especially in complex regions like Caspian Sea. With rising development costs, as seen in major projects like Kashagan, efficient exploration strategies are more crucial than ever. Seismic exploration techniques play an essential role in mapping subsurface structures, reducing risks, and guiding drilling efforts toward more promising prospects. Without comprehensive data, the likelihood of encountering dry wells, such as in the case of Abay-1, increases, impacting both financial and strategic interests. For countries and companies striving to attract investment and maximize resource potential, investing in advanced seismic technology is not just an option; it's a necessity for sustainable growth and reduced exploration risk. #OilAndGas #SeismicData #ExplorationEfficiency #DataReprocessing #EnergyInnovation #CostEffectiveSolutions #SubsurfaceImaging #InvestingInEnergy

📢Upstream National News 🗺 Eni Makes Significant Discovery Offshore Mexico 🌊 A major discovery at the Yopaat-1 EXP exploration well in Block 9, located 63 kilometers off the coast in the mid-deep waters of the Cuenca Salina in the Sureste Basin, Mexico. Preliminary estimates suggest the well holds around 300-400 million barrels of oil equivalent (Mboe) of oil and associated gas. Drilled in a water depth of 525 meters, the well reached a total depth of 2,931 meters and encountered about 200 meters of hydrocarbon-bearing sands in the Pliocene and Miocene sequences. The Block 9 joint venture includes Eni (50%, operator) and Repsol (50%). This discovery, alongside others in Eni-operated Blocks 7 and 10, enhances the value of Eni’s asset portfolio in the Sureste Basin. Eni’s resources in the area now exceed 1.3 billion barrels of oil equivalent (Bboe), paving the way for potential future developments. Eni has been active in Mexico since 2006, establishing Eni Mexico S. de R. L. de C.V. in 2015. It is the main foreign operator in the country with rights in eight exploration and production blocks in the Gulf of Mexico. Pancontinental Energy NL says the interpretation and analysis of the pre-stack depth migration seismic dataset on PEL 87 in the Walvis Basin is nearing completion. The interpretation and analysis will quantify potential reservoir characteristics and fine-tune the geophysical/geological interpretation of the identified exploration leads. The Australian company operates PEL 87 with a 75% interest, while Custos Investments (Pty) Ltd has 15% and NAMCOR NAMIBIA the other 10%. The Walvis Basin is becoming an attraction. Chevron preparing to start drilling its first exploration well in PEL 90, immediately south of PEL 87.
