🌍 Electrifying Africa. Over 600 million people across Africa are living without access to electricity, predominantly in rural areas. The challenges in these regions, from: ❌ Distance to the national grid, to ❌limited economic activity have made electrification a formidable task. Minigrids show a beacon of hope for these communities, offering a promising solution to their energy needs. Their decentralized nature makes them particularly suitable for rural areas, where connecting to the main grid is often impractical. However several hurdles must be overcome before they can fully realize their potential. 🔌 Untapped Market: The need for electricity in rural Africa is vast, creating a market ripe for exploration. To electrify the population that could benefit from mini-grid, we require a staggering 52 times the current capacity. 💰 Financial Barrier: One of the biggest challenges facing mini-grid deployment today is financing. Closing the financing gap requires a monumental effort – we need at least 13 times the current investment to make significant strides in electrification. The potential of mini-grids to revolutionize electrification in Africa cannot be overstated. Minigrids appear Africa's fastest and most viable way to electrify rural dwellers and achieve universal electricity access by 2030. I am joining The Future of Energy as an Associate in Distributed Renewable Energy! This step feels like the realisation of a personal journey that started back home in Malawi, where only 11% of the population can access electricity. Growing up, I had the privilege of a powered home. Still, just a few kilometres away, communities lived in complete darkness after 6 p.m. Realising this stark reality ignited a purpose in me: energy access isn't a luxury—it’s a fundamental necessity. Without electricity, children can’t study at night, healthcare facilities struggle to operate, and businesses can't thrive. This lack perpetuates poverty and limits opportunities for millions. Why TFE? TFE is at the forefront of transforming energy access across Africa through renewable solutions. Working here means actively contributing to sustainable, affordable, and equitable energy for underserved communities. Every project we undertake moves us closer to a future where children study after sunset, healthcare workers operate safely, and local economies flourish. Renewable Energy: A Path to Progress Renewable solutions offer more than power—they bring hope, potential, and a pathway to progress. TFE’s commitment to sub-Saharan Africa resonates with my mission to bring light and opportunity to those who need it most. As I embark on this journey, I am filled with gratitude and determination to help light up Africa’s path to a brighter, sustainable future. #RenewableEnergy #EnergyAccess #Sustainability #TheFutureOfEnergy #TFE #AfricanProgress

Power in #Africa, especially in Kenya, is expensive. As of March 2024, Kenya's average residential electricity price stands at KES 33.01 per kWh, which is significantly higher than the world average and about 185% higher than the average price across Africa. This high cost affects households and small businesses, placing a heavy financial burden on low-income earners. For example, many families consuming 30-100 kWh per month have seen their electricity bills rise by as much as 63%, making it increasingly difficult to afford other essentials. For low-income households, electricity remains a luxury rather than a necessity. This disparity highlights the urgent need for affordable and sustainable energy solutions. #Mission300 is designed to address this gap by bringing clean, renewable energy to underserved African communities. Access to energy will unlock educational opportunities, power healthcare facilities, and drive economic growth. Imagine rural clinics being able to run essential medical equipment reliably or students being able to study at night without worrying about power outages. By transitioning to renewable energy sources like solar and wind, Africa can make energy affordable and accessible. #Mission300, together with other initiatives by Africa50 Infrastructure Investment Platform, will electrify dreams, ambitions, and possibilities. #PowerUpForChange #CleanEnergy #SustainableDevelopment #EnergyForAll #Africa #Mission300

Power driving progress - that's the crux of our new insight article on #EnergyAccess in Africa. Through hard data, case studies and analysis, we unpack how the lack of reliable and affordable energy is a key barrier stifling entrepreneurship, business productivity and economic growth across the continent. The costs of energy poverty are massive - Nigerian MSMEs alone lose $29 billion annually due to disruptions from insufficient power access. But we also showcase success stories from North Africa, where smart policies and enabling environments in Morocco and Egypt have unlocked billions in renewable energy investments, producing surplus electricity and fueling economic advancement. Most crucially, the article establishes the multidimensional impact of energy poverty - from suppressed literacy and education rates to lack of clean water access and intensified gender inequalities when women bear the brunt of hauling water for households. Energy is truly the backbone for realizing Africa's sustainable development goals around poverty, health, education and more by 2030. Read the article below and join the conversation on ensuring Africa has the power to unleash its true economic potential while uplifting lives and communities. #SustainableAfrica #EnergyEquity #EconomicTransformation https://lnkd.in/gjyxmvNA

This week, leaders from over half of Africa’s nations met in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania’s bustling seaside city, to commit to the most significant investment in electric power generation in the continent’s history. In sub-Saharan Africa, the number of people without access to electricity grew by 100 million from 2000 to 2022 as population growth outpaced electrification. However, the absence of electricity is an economic burden and a daily struggle in a world where over 90% of people have access to it. It means no internet, music playing through speakers, and no light for kids to do homework. Installing mini-grids, much less significant projects, will take years. Solar Sister's model puts solar energy in the hands of everyday people in their homes, villages, and communities. Women like Gladys are leading the charge. #energyaccess #genderequity #climateaction
