Important Update: The 2024 ABH Summit & Grand Finale, set for December 4-5, has been postponed. New dates will be shared next week. This change is due to recent US travel protocols affecting our finalists, VIPs, and guests traveling from Rwanda. With Rwanda’s Marburg Virus outbreak now well-contained and no new cases since October 30, we expect these travel restrictions to lift soon. We appreciate your understanding and can’t wait to celebrate together soon! Warm regards, The ABH Team

For years, my fascination with corals and coral reefs has only deepened. One of my earliest dives into science literature involved delving into the wonders of Australia's Great Barrier Reef. Witnessing the phenomenon of "bleached corals" during my formative years sparked a curiosity that grew with time, as I came to understand the underlying causes behind the loss of these vibrant colors. As the issue of climate change gained prominence, the urgent calls from scientists to address the dangerous acceleration of global warming became impossible to ignore. As a journalist at Arab News I relentlessly searched for topics to cover and the amount of information received was needless to say overwhelming but gave someone like me, a lover of the sea, hope. The relentless efforts to safeguard biodiversity have continued unabated by researchers, activists and many more stakeholders for years. Here in the Red Sea, decades of research aimed at protecting these exquisite habitats have yielded remarkable insights. Institutions like King AbdulAziz University and KAUST (King Abdullah University of Science and Technology), along with numerous partners, have collaborated tirelessly to preserve this marvel of the ocean. Corals and coral reef ecosystems are not mere adornments; they are indispensable for life itself. The Red Sea, with its stunning array of coral reefs, forms a crucial component of a broader system that sustains the biological equilibrium of the ocean. Understanding the intricacies of this complex ecosystem is paramount, especially as coral reef habitats rank among the most vulnerable. Sadly, the relentless onslaught of climate change has already decimated half of the world's coral reefs. Yet, amidst these challenges, there is cause for hope. Here Red Sea Global and AMAALA, I get to have access to even more work to preserve and safeguarding one of our planet's most precious treasures in the Red Sea. This #EarthDay, we get to venture underwater and watch how our coral habitats are thriving and surviving. Another wonder of the Earth protected by the best in the business. #Savetheplanet #Coralreefprotection #climatechangeaction #EarthDay
Happy #EarthDay! Join us today at 9pm KSA time for 'Beneath the Surface: The Fight for Corals' and learn about the unique resilience of Red Sea corals and their potential contribution to global coral health. Find out where to watch: http://ms.spr.ly/6044Y1OZO
