On Friday, we hosted a panel at COP29 with the theme: A Year After COP28: Unpacking the Energy Transition and What's Next. Some important key outcomes from COP28 were to triple renewable energy, double energy efficiency and transition away from fossil fuels. This panel assessed our progress and identified critical implementation gaps. Together with an excellent panel consisting of Vattenfall, Volvo Group, Ingrid Capacity, BNP Paribas and International Energy Agency (IEA) we discussed the need for public acceptance for the existing technological solutions. We need to tell the story about all the positive aspects of the transition, one obvious being clean air. IEA gave us an optimistic global picture where electric vehicles increased 25% and solar power doubled last year, and is projected to increase another 30% this year. So, many positive news, but we know that the acceleration is going too slowly. To speed it up we need the key enablers to be set right and to be aligned within: policy, finance and innovation. What was more discussed during the panel was the need for consistent policy, investments in grids and digitalisation of the energy network, quicker permitting processes and developed storage solutions. Thanks to Thomas Spencer (IEA), Annika Ramsköld (Vattenfall), Constance Chalchat (BNP Paribas), Axel Holmberg (Ingrid Capacity), Karin Svensson (Volvo Group) for an insightful discussion!
