Vaccines are typically composed of one or more viruses, bacteria, or other microorganisms that have been modified or killed in order to reduce or eliminate their pathogenicity, and/or toxoids which are toxins that have been rendered harmless. Progress! Effective July 1st, 2024, the Indian Pharmacopoeia Commission (IPC) will now allow requests to waive the Target Animal Batch Safety Test (TABST) for veterinary vaccines. The waiver is allowed or can be requested based on specific conditions that guarantee vaccines quality and consistency of the production as per the VICH Guidelines. By recognizing the shortfalls of the TABST and allowing the test to be waived, India is a step closer to aligning itself with international veterinary vaccine testing standards, joining Brazil, Europe, Canada, the US, Japan, and others. AFSA has been collaborating with many local and international stakeholders to secure the implementation of the waiver and promote global alignment of testing requirements for veterinary vaccines. We thank all stakeholders for their collaborative efforts in achieving this landmark milestone for India and veterinary vaccine manufacturers. This waiver follows a series of progressive decisions by the IPC: 2018 ➡ Rabbit Pyrogen Test replaced with the Bacterial Endotoxin Test (BET), followed by inclusion of the Monocyte Activation Test (MAT) 2020 ➡ Abnormal Toxicity Test (ATT) removed for almost all human vaccines in Indian Pharmacopoeia monographs Read more in AFSA partner, Humane Society International India’s, press release: https://lnkd.in/dFiTQbWD #animalfreescience #veterinaryvaccines #vaccines #batchsafetytesting #regulatoryupdate #TABST #progress #india
