“The strength in numbers – seeing so many people who have been affected by suicide, gathered there for the same reason – gave me a sense of confidence in knowing that somehow, my family and I would be okay.”

Today is world suicide prevention day. Having lost my best friend to suicide, please remember to check-in on family, friends, neighbours and colleagues who: Have been quiet lately Never ask for help Always seem happy Come across as 'strong Seem to have it all ‘figured out' Are going through life transitions Are always there for everyone else Say they're 'fine You haven't heard from recently In the UK, men are three times as likely to die by suicide than women. In the Republic of Ireland, the rate is four times higher among men than women. While there has been a reduction in the number of people completing suicide over the last ten years, the numbers are still worryingly high. World Suicide Prevention Day aims to start the conversation about suicide and to show that recovery is possible.

Today is World Suicide Prevention Day. This global day brings people together to reduce stigma, push for policy changes, encourage seeking help, and honour those lost to suicide, survivors, and those grieving. ➕ Over 7 million adults in Australia are close to someone who has died by suicide or attempted suicide. ➕ By age 25, 1 in 2 young people are affected. ➕ Suicide was the 15th leading cause of death. ➕ Men are three times more likely to die by suicide than women ➕ Indigenous Australians die by suicide at twice the rate of non-Indigenous Australians. We believe that everyone can help prevent suicide—not just on World Suicide Prevention Day, but every day.
