Exploring New Avenues in Architectural Design Days and nights of sketching brought this vision to life. While we typically rely on CAD programs for blueprints, this time we took a different approach—using a 3D modeling tool, SketchUp, to transform our blueprints into a complete 3D model. Many in the industry might wonder if SketchUp can play a crucial role in architectural visualization (ArchViz) modeling. The answer is yes! It’s a powerful tool that holds a significant place in building 3D models. Have you ever tried transitioning a 3D model into a blueprint? The results are truly remarkable. We have also used Revit Architecture several times, as it's a critical tool in the Building Information Modeling (BIM) space. However, this time, we were particularly impressed with how SketchUp enabled us to convert this detailed design into a full A1-sized sheet. A little history on this simple LunchBox component - when I was a designer, I would often work on projects that had both 2D and 3D NURBS curves as the building blocks for architectural geometry (think landscape pathways or structural systems). These needed to be broken down into discrete parts that could be easily dimensioned and fabricated. I worked out this simple component for breaking down complex curves into arcs that connected end-to-end on tangents. I would use this component to derive arc-based curve segments that closely approximated the original NURBS - simple but effective! #geometry #nurbs #rhino #grasshopper #computationaldesign
