Starting the round-up in the Philippines, the POGO ban has led to some impact in employment in Cagayan, while small-scale POGOs are still trying to find ways to avoid the axe until the last minute. In Vietnam, the Corona Resort & Casino announced that it will temporarily suspend Vietnamese citizens from playing starting from Jan 1st. In Cambodia, NagaCorp has decided to terminate its Share Award Scheme due to worsening business performance, as the local government decided to lower e-visa fees for tourists, business visitors and other travelers in 2025. Meanwhile, Macau has inaugurated its new 50,000-capacity outdoor concert venue in Cotai with a star-studded show.

South East Asia bets big on casinos, but who will take Singapore’s crown?: While the Philippines is hot on the city-state’s heels, could Thailand be a dark horse to watch? The casino gaming landscape in Asia Pacific is changing. In the late 2000s / early 2010s, Macau and then Singapore set new standards for integrated resorts offering gaming, luxury hotels, dining, shopping and entertainment. More recently, live concerts and shows have added new appeal, especially for younger visitors. Other nations are eager to join the game, notably Japan and Thailand, while Philippines is feeling expansionary. So what happens next? “Players such as the Philippines and Thailand have really looked at Singapore and Macau and realised that gaming transforms the whole tourism industry, not just the casino segment.” Many thanks to Ruoxue Goh for including some of my comments in this deep-dive into the future of casino tourism in ASEAN for The Business Times. 🌟 Back from China! I am back from ChinaJoy and OMG, it was a great trip and very insightful! 🎮✨ I will try my best to share some pictures and videos in the next posts, but for now, a quick summary of this huge event: 🌍 International Reach: According to the Shanghai government, this year had a staggering 367,000 fans over four action-packed days, welcoming 8,200 overseas visitors from 31 countries and regions – making ChinaJoy the biggest in the world (Gamescom last year had 320k). 🏢 Massive Scale: The event hosted 743 exhibitors, with big brands and sponsors, taking up all 17 exhibition halls of the Shanghai New International Expo Center (SNIEC) – a capacity of 200,000 square meters indoor and 100,000 square meters outdoor exhibition area. 🔄 Comprehensive Segments: It had B2C (fans and players) and B2B sections, alongside CDEC (China Digital Entertainment Congress) and CGDC (China Game Developers Conference) in the adjacent Shanghai Kerry Hotel complex. 📊 Well Organized: Exhibitors were grouped into categories, showcasing mobile hardware, mobile OS, community-related apps, peripherals, payment solutions, and of course, many developers, publishers, media channels, etc. All are part of this huge gaming ecosystem. In short, it was a great experience, and I hope to go back more often. We even have plans to expand and take more people next time. (Please let us know if you are interested in this.) This time, besides Fernando Fauzi Hamuche, we had the pleasure of taking Bruno A. with us to try and close some deals on-site (and we are on the way!) Please let me know if you have any questions, and I will try my best to answer them! ENG "SAGSE Latam will be a bridge to connect large international companies with Latin America" Important changes and a series of novelties for the event's 33rd edition in Buenos Aires, to be held on March 19 and 20 next year, starting with the event's slogan, which will be promoted as "SAGSE Latam 2025: Your bridge to connect with Latin America". "In its 33rd edition, SAGSE has become the leading event in the gaming industry in Latin America and continues to consolidate itself as the essential platform to connect global companies with the booming Latin American market. In the 2024 edition, we welcomed 3,000 executives and authorities, of which 67% were operators, achieving the commercial and executive profile we sought to impose on the event and highlighting its importance in the industry's decision-making process,". "SAGSE is 100% Latam, and this is reflected in the geographic diversity of those who visit us. This year we had a very large number of businessmen and executives from Brazil, since 24% of the visitors came from there, followed by 22% of local attendees (from Argentina), 12% from Paraguay, 11% from Chile, 9% from Peru, 7% from Colombia, 5% from Panama and 10% from other countries.
