Research funding should prioritize innovative and effective methods that benefit both humans and animals. Yet, as this survey highlights, significant biases in grant reviews often push researchers toward outdated animal testing models. These systemic challenges make it harder to secure funding for humane, non-animal approaches, despite their potential to advance science and save countless animal lives. At NAVS, we’re committed to breaking down these barriers and championing a future where science is smarter, kinder, and more compassionate. Our support of IFER drives funding for researchers developing and using non-animal approaches. #HumaneScience

As the debate continues between those against animal research/testing and those committed to it, we hear frequent references to "NAMs and NATs". Non-Animal Models? New Approach Methodologies? Non-Animal Technologies?? Are we all using these acronyms for the same initiatives? I think not. To try and clarify this, I've put down some preliminary thoughts on Norecopa's website: https://lnkd.in/dvAXDH4K Others will produce working group reports on this theme and they will be cited as they are published - I hope that both the lab animal and the in vitro communities can agree on the same definitions and acronyms, so that a discussion about semantics doesn't prolong or derail the debate! Let me know if you agree or disagree with what I've written!

You may have heard about the world’s first pig to human kidney transplant in the media recently. The use of transgenic organs has not prevented the rejection of xenotransplants thus far, ultimately leading to the death of the organ recipient. Fifty years of failure of animal-based xenotransplantation should serve to temper expectations of imminent ‘breakthroughs’. It's time to invest in ethical, human-relevant research rather than resting our hopes on so-called ‘breakthroughs’ reliant on the commodification of animals. https://lnkd.in/gTjbaCTy Image credit: We Animals Media #EndAnimalExperimentation #EndAnimalExperiments #EndAnimalTesting #CrueltyFree #AnimalExperiments #AnimalExperimentation #AnimalTesting #AnimalFreeScience #AnimalFreeResearch #Xenotransplantation

CanChip posted that less than 1% of public funding is allocated to non-animal studies. There are no official statistical documents, but I believe it is the same in Iran. Due to the regulations prohibiting animal studies and the efforts of Iranian companies to produce, export, and even import pharmaceuticals, food additives, and cosmetics, it is advisable to focus on the development and validation of non-animal assays, including in vitro tests and in silico methods. This is especially crucial in the preclinical (toxicity) testing phase for manufacturing various types of chemicals. #non_animal_study #3_R #QSAR #in_vitro_assay #alternative_methods #in_silico

This isn't science, it's torture! And it's not helping humans. It's time to use non-animal methods that are humane and human relevant. It's time for #BetterScience Link in our bio for how you can help animals in labs!👀 #EndAnimalExperiments #SaferScience
