MOPITT turned 25! 🥳 Since launching on NASA’s Terra satellite on December 18, 1999, Canada’s MOPITT instrument has been on a mission to scan Earth’s atmosphere, measuring carbon monoxide levels with near-global coverage every three days. MOPITT has become the longest-running air quality monitor in space – and the longest continuously operating Canadian space mission in history. From tracking pollution from wildfires to providing data that informs international climate agreements, MOPITT is a true Canadian star in the fight against air pollution. Its data powers research, policies, and even advanced forecasting models used by scientists worldwide. Here’s to 25 years of groundbreaking science and international collaboration!
