So Elon Musk is about to take the knife to central US Government to find $2Tn of efficiency savings via the forthcoming Department for Government Efficiency (#DOGE). How might this impact the employee experience of central government agencies and change the culture of each agency? We decided to compare the culture & EVP of Tesla and Internal Revenue Service to get a data-led glimpse into where the 'Musk Effect' might bring in culture shifts to central government agencies. Our analysis suggests that the biggest impacts could be in: 💡 1. Progressive Mindset - expect more openness to innovation and an enhanced risk appetite 👟 2. Agility - expect radical overhaul of governance, process and decision-making ☝ 3. Empowerment - expect employees and managers to feel more empowered to make decisions with greater freedom and autonomy 👨💻 4. Technology - expect technology-enabled efficiency gains and cost savings 🤯 5. There's a lot going on out there... Change is constant. For better or worse, the world is always moving and so is how we experience work. We're learning a lot from changing expectations. We're having long overdue conversations and putting even more overdue workplace support in place to make our lives work. We're on the edge of a technological revolution that will shift how the very infrastructure of how we interact with businesses and, with each other. Make no mistake, it's a LOT. Employee experience teams have the most incredibly opportunity to shape the future of work. A technologically enabled, but more human future. The old rules don't apply anymore. We have to think differently for a new context of work. This is a bin the playbook sort of moment. And we're here for it... #employeeexperience

Challenging the “Woo-Woo” Label: It’s Time to Evolve the Workplace! In today’s rapidly changing world, there’s a persistent notion that anything human-related—empathy, well-being, emotional intelligence—gets dismissed as “woo-woo.” This mindset is not just outdated; it’s detrimental. We're operating in workplaces that have inherited practices from the Industrial Age, a time when efficiency and productivity were prioritized over the well-being of workers. This mechanical approach has since been infused into all corporate people practices where people are viewed as 'assets', 'capital' or 'resources' to be managed and optimized. But we’re NOT machines. These rigid, one-size-fits-all approaches that worked in manufacturing assembly lines don’t apply to the modern workforce and certainly not in 2024 and beyond. The future of work is HUMAN, driven by genuine connection, creativity, meaningful common goals and the full spectrum of human experience. Ignoring this reality isn’t just a missed opportunity; it’s a massive RISK to every organization’s success. Employees today crave authenticity, flexibility, and environments where they can thrive as their fullest selves. This isn’t about being “soft”—it’s about being SMART. It’s time to challenge the stigmas, reimagine our workplaces, and embrace human practices that truly ALIGN with our holistic needs today. The companies that do will not only attract the best talent but will also organically foster innovation, resilience, and long-term success. So, can we finally start evolving the conversation? #humanworkplace #workplaceculture #consciousleadership #futureofwork #talentmanagement #talentdevelopment #leadershipdevelopment

With employees more likely to jump ship than 2022’s “Great Resignation”, you can't afford to be complacent about workplace well-being. At the same time, leaders often need to revert to a command-and-control approach when a crisis emerges. So how do you navigate this transition without upsetting the cultural apple cart? As Zoe Cunningham explains, it’s about building up cultural credit. Check out how you can do that in her new article for WeAreTechWomen (link in comments). #LeadershipStyles #CommandandControl #WorkplaceCulture #WomenInTech

Gen Z is at the forefront. 𝐁𝐮𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞'𝐬 𝐚 𝐠𝐚𝐩 𝐭𝐨 𝐛𝐫𝐢𝐝𝐠𝐞. I personally see incredible potential in this generation – their tech fluency, their passion for purpose, and their desire for a work-life balance – thriving for productivity. Some companies are scrambling to rewrite the entire playbook, offering perks and policies tailored specifically to Gen Z. What they’re failing to understand is that the reality is different than merely understanding this gen’s preferences. 𝗔𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗲𝗻𝗱 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗱𝗮𝘆, 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗺 𝘁𝗼 𝗴𝗲𝘁 𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗳𝗳 𝗱𝗼𝗻𝗲! 𝗔𝗻𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗰𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗮𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗽𝗹𝗲𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸. "Hard work, discipline, and a commitment to delivering quality results.” They still hold true. So, bridge this gap by: ✅ 𝗠𝗼𝗱𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗶𝘇𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗺𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴—Embrace Gen Z's digital expertise without compromising the core values of hard work and dedication. ✅ 𝗜𝗻𝘃𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝗻 𝗴𝗿𝗼𝘄𝘁𝗵—Offer mentorship programs and training opportunities. Experienced employees can offer knowledge, Gen Z can bring fresh perspectives. ✅ 𝗘𝗺𝗯𝗿𝗮𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗹𝗲𝘅𝗶𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆— Offer flexible work arrangements that empower productivity, not hinder it. But remember, 𝗳𝗹𝗲𝘅𝗶𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱𝗻'𝘁 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗮 𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝗼𝗳 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗶𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗼𝗿 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗰𝗶𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲. Building a future-ready workforce isn't about pandering, it's about adapting. We can create a workplace that thrives on the strengths of all generations, one that fosters collaboration, innovation, and success. So, how do you balance Gen Z's needs with core values? #GenZ #FutureOfWork #Leadership #WorkLifeBalance #Innovation
