Proud to be the coordinator of the (in short) Agriculture Energy Resilience project (AgEnRes). As recent years have shown, unfortunately, extreme price volatility of fossil fuels and mineral fertilizers happens and it can happen again. High and volatile prices of these inputs impacts investment behavior, farm income, resilience of the agricultural sector as whole and food security. Investments in less fossil-fuel-intensive technologies in the EU agricultural sector will take time meaning that impacts of high prices of fossil fuels and mineral fertilizers will not disappear in the short term. Therefore it is not only important to develop investment pathways to improve farm energy and fertilizer productivity, but it is also important to develop meaningful input price risk management instruments to increase the resilience to volatile energy prices. The AgEnRes consortium consists of a great team of economic, technical and environmental researchers of financial and behavioral economists and micro and macro data and modeling specialist. I am confident that we will come up with integrated assessments and policy design that will increase on farm energy and fertilizer productivity, decrease emissions to the environment and improve farmers income.

Last but not least remark from our excellent reviewers: Tessa Avermaete, Martin Schönhart and Eduard Matveev. "Policy recommendations are provided in several deliverables. It is advised to bundle these recommendations in (short) policy briefs." Thank you for pushing this a little! For communication and dissemination, we also provide extended summaries of almost all MIND STEP deliverables. All available on the website. Besides a large and still counting number of scientific publications, I hope this further improves Stakeholder engagement. With MIND STEP we contributed to include farm level decision making models into the macro-micro modelling chain frequently used by the European Commission. We pointed at differences between farms and stressed that (mitigation) policies can only be cost efficient if they are differentiated per farm or farm type. However, still a long way to go, to have all this implemented in the perfect agricultural sector model consisting of interconnected models of individual producers and consumers, to support policy design, necessary impact assessments and bring stakeholders in the agricultural sector together for discussion. Hopefully we can make further steps in our new Horizon project AgEnRes.
