Unexpected Greatness, Hidden Potential Extraordinary talent is often hidden in plain sight. Recently, my wife Kim Trent and I came across something remarkable. Hidden in the Wisconsin countryside, far from where you might expect it, we found a stunning church. Its architecture and grandeur felt like it belonged in the heart of Rome, Italy—not tucked away in a quiet rural area. This discovery left me amazed, not just because of the church itself, but because of what it represents. It’s a reminder that greatness often exists in unexpected places, waiting to be recognized and appreciated. The same is true for people in their careers. In our teams, our colleagues, and even ourselves, we often overlook strengths and potential because they don’t appear where or how we expect them to. We focus on conventional paths or familiar skills, and we miss the unique value that’s right in front of us—hidden, yet in plain sight. This is why I’m so passionate about helping people discover their Personal Intellectual Capital (PIC): the unique combination of skills, knowledge, and experiences that make them who they are. Many carry extraordinary value within them, but it goes unnoticed because it doesn’t fit the expected mold. Here’s what I’ve learned: ✅ What makes someone exceptional often exists in places we’d never think to look. ✅ Just like that amazing church in Wisconsin, people’s strengths often reveal themselves when we take the time to truly see them. ✅ The “hidden gems” in our careers, teams, and ourselves can transform everything when they’re uncovered and supported.
