Out now! read our paper on regenerative agriculture and positive roadmap for food sector in the Netherlands. #netpositive
Can we share a positive perspective for Farmers… Yes we can! Regenerative Agriculture provides significant benefits for farmers but also helps to make the food system more sustainable. Current agricultural methods, especially intensive farming, can leave a damaging environmental legacy and produce food of lower nutritional value. By applying regenerative agricultural practices, we can: > lower GHG emissions; > reduce freshwater consumption; > cut back on nitrate pollution; > improve soil quality and fertility; > enhance biodiversity; and > grow more nutrient-rich crops. Our point of view will address the following, with a specific perspective on the Netherlands: - What is regenerative agriculture, and what are its benefits and risks - What are the opportunities and challenges for food-agri players in scaling regenerative agriculture? How can they collaborate? Let's advance towards sustainable growth together: https://deloi.tt/49bMeC0 #FutureofFood #RegenerativeAgriculture Tina Scheele, Arthur de Wilde, Stefania Daniolos, Fred Nijland, Maarten Oonk

I am committed to expanding my knowledge and enjoy seeking opportunities to explore new ideas. Hence, I wanted to talk about a webinar I attended hosted by RaddisCotton on “How to Scale up Regenerative Cotton Sourcing”. 💡 With cotton being a commodity with a history of exploitation in the value chain and negative environmental impacts, I was curious how alternative agricultural practices and cotton value chain approaches can look in practice and the associated issues with their implementation. Here are some of my key insights: 🌾 Regenerative agriculture goes beyond just ensuring the sustainability of growing crops. Empowering the local Indigenous people and their ancient place-based knowledge is fundamental to regenerative agriculture. 🤝 A regenerative cotton value network requires suppliers, such as farmer families, to be on equal footing with buyers. Raddis approaches this through a multi-year collaboration system; brand partners sign up for it and pay fees upfront to enable the transformation from degenerative towards regenerative farm practices. Farmers are provided payment at the time of procurement by bank transfer for their cotton and are assured they have reliable buyers, encouraging consistent use of sustainable practices. Raddis can scale up regenerative farming in different areas through this approach with multiple brand partners. 🙆 Upscaling is not a smooth process, especially due to the various stakeholders involved in the network and ongoing legislative changes like the EU Green Deal. Open communication and commitment between all stakeholders is key to transform the commodity chain into a collaborative value network! In 2024, regenerative agriculture has become a buzzword in the food industry. Many major food companies now have dedicated pages on their websites outlining their sustainability goals and targets. While this is a positive development, it is important to look beyond the jargon and examine the actual practices being implemented. The lack of a set definition for regenerative agriculture makes it easier for companies to engage in #greenwashing , so it's crucial to scrutinize their claims and check for concrete actions. AgFunder produced a non-exhaustive list of the world's largest agrifood corporations and their commitments to regenerative agriculture. #regenerativeagriculture #sustainableagriculture https://lnkd.in/gSA6g8jv

🌾 Transitioning to Regenerative Agriculture: Managing Risks with Confidence 🌾 For farmers looking to shift towards regenerative agriculture, the journey is promising but can feel uncertain. Managing risks is a real challenge, as growers face complex adjustments to soil health practices, crop rotations, and resource management. This transition demands not only commitment but also expert support to ensure long-term success. By joining initiatives led by the EMEA Bayer Carbon Business Team, farmers gain a partner in this journey. Bayer’s team provides targeted agronomical advisory and unmatched project management expertise—tools essential for navigating this transition confidently. Recognized by leaders across the agricultural value chain, these projects are designed to empower growers to adopt sustainable practices while mitigating risks. Together, we can create a future where sustainability meets profitability. Let’s talk regenerative agriculture–what it is, and what it means for fashion🌱👗 Our Head of Regenerative Agriculture Mari Stuart breaks down the movement for us, and why its usage has become problematic. As one of the most widely discussed (and debated) terms in modern farming, it is an approach that seeks to revolutionise materials supply, farming systems and methods. Many companies define the movement through a set list of outcomes or practices, despite farming methods varying drastically around the world. Unfortunately, this allows companies to claim that they are regenerative by simply meeting a fixed criteria, even when their methodology fails to prioritise the most important aspect of the movement—“whole-system health”, as Mari highlights. For the movement to be truly successful, it must uplift the voices of farmers at the heart of agriculture. Key players at the top of the supply chain should work to redress the inequalities experienced by those at the bottom, providing financial incentives or compensation to support farmers’ transition to sustainable farming. Otherwise, the term “regenerative” can easily turn into another tool for agribusiness greenwashing. Want to read more?
