🚨 Landmark case alert out of the UK: http://bit.ly/4f00alm Here's why this case is important: 𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗹 𝗩𝗶𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗺𝘀: The offender used benign photos of real children that he pulled off the internet to generate exploitative content. This highlights the urgent and outstanding need to avoid framing such material as "fake" and to recognize the risk of misuse of benign imagery. 𝗖𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝗪𝗲𝗯 𝗔𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆: Operating on the clear web, the case demonstrates that child sexual offending is not restricted to the dark web — it happens everywhere, including the mainstream platforms we all use. The places we go to build community are the same ones that offenders use to build theirs or to find victims. 𝗕𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗸𝗲 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗗𝗲𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗱: The offender was actively selling his abuse imagery and material, in addition to taking requests for new content and to develop new "characters." This underscores the reality of demand for tailored exploitation content within offender communities — a disturbing reminder of the markets that are emerging and exist for this material. 𝗚𝗹𝗼𝗯𝗮𝗹 𝗩𝗶𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗺 𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗰𝘁: Despite the UK-based offender, his victims spanned beyond the UK, including victims in Italy, the US, and France, emphasizing the borderless nature of technology-facilitated exploitation and the need for international cooperation in these cases. 𝗟𝗲𝗴𝗮𝗹 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗲𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗦𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴: Prosecutors had to establish new precedents, as UK legislation hasn’t yet caught up to the reality of AI-generated CSAM. This case highlights the urgent need for legislative updates to address the complexities of technology-facilitated offenses so that justice can be served. #childsafety #safetybydesign #techresponsibility

The law is always struggling to keep up with technology as these are uncharted waters. With the advancement in AI, the availability of these applications is astounding and scary. However, I'm left with the thought - why is there is there suddenly so much demand for these images or was the demand always there, it's just so much easier to obtain or even create?
