I will be attending this event in person, because my National Convenor will be presenting Cameroon's Priorities for the Convergence of Agendas. Prof. Grace will be presenting how Cameroon seeks to combine priorities and policy documents around themes that work for food production, climate adaptation, and conflict mitigation. The three priority areas are: 1.- Rice Value Chains 2.- Agroecological food and livestock production 3.- Import Substitution and support to domestic markets for domestic production

What did Tropical Forest Alliance get up to at London Climate Action Week? 👇🏽 'Scaling Innovative Finance Mechanisms for Sustainable Land Use in Latin America' An IFACC Initiative event, organised by TFA in partnership The Nature Conservancy and UNEP Jack Hurd, Executive Director of the Tropical Forest Alliance, opened the event. With the aim of building the conversation on financing the sustainable agricultural transition, a total of 43 organisations participated, including banks, catalytic investors, government, corporates and civil society. 4th edition of the Brazilian Agritech Briefing Organised by the Embassy of Brazil in London, TFA alongside Sustainable Markets Initiative supported with coordination and engagement. Companies presented innovative solutions to improve access to capital, restore degraded lands, and boost agricultural output in Brazil. Over 130 guests including those at the forefront of Brazil’s sustainable agricultural practices, reforestation, and green finance, the event highlighted the crucial role of private investment in driving sustainable development. TFA also organised a number of key meetings between key stakeholders to facilitate discussions, identify challenges and share perspectives. TFA was mentioned during the Nature4Climate event “How to overcome barriers to ensure financial portfolios are free from deforestation-related activities” at the Nature Positive Hub. The discussion brought together different finance sector actors, and centered around initiatives to help investors clean their portfolios, understand and tackle nature risks and look for nature-positive opportunities. Deforestation is more than an environmental issue. It sits at the heart of climate, biodiversity and food and water security, and it is also an economic concern. It presents both physical and regulatory risks, and poses an ever growing financial risk to investors, corporates and governments. The Investor Policy Dialogue on Deforestation (IPDD) is an investor-led sovereign engagement initiative that aims to halt deforestation in some of the world’s most biodiverse, carbon-absorbing biomes - by engaging with government-related authorities and associations, industry and trade bodies, and other stakeholders. Financial institutions have a fiduciary duty to act in the best long-term interests of beneficiaries, and investors recognise the crucial role that tropical forests and other types of natural vegetation play in tackling climate change, protecting biodiversity, and delivering ecosystem services. IPDD is a global initiative made-up of 81 institutional investors from 21 countries - with a collective AUM of USD $10.5 trillion. The initiative consists of 3 working groups - Brazil, Indonesia and Consumer Countries (EU, UK, USA) - and is supported by the Tropical Forest Alliance as the secretariat. I found this article very interesting as an indication of the potentially transformative role, for innovative corporate leaders, of "glocal" synergies between the Rio and related conventions on the issue of damage and loss... As we face unprecedented climate- and nature-related threats across the globe, "bending the curve" towards the inclusion of parametric reinsurance systems to address the upfront price of protection against the loss of critical ecosystem services is unavoidable for businesses, banks, investors, customers and people everywhere... 🌍✨ Exciting Impact! ✨🌍 I had the incredible opportunity to present our novel paper, "Greening Trade: Analyzing AfCFTA's Impact on Biodiversity and Implications for Sustainable Development in Africa," at the latest ES conference! 📊🌱co-authored with Marianne Kettunen & Chukwuka Onyekwena. 📊✨ Free Trade Agreements like AfCFTA can be game-changers for biodiversity conservation if designed and implemented thoughtfully. Using a unique blend of qualitative and quantitative methods with the Energy-Environment Integrated CGE (EEICGE) Model, we explored the nuanced impacts of AfCFTA on Africa's biodiversity. 🌿🔍 Summarily, robust enforcement of environmental regulations, inclusion of local communities, and sustainable trade practices are key to ensuring FTAs promote both sustainable development and biodiversity conservation. 🌱💪 Research discussed in this publication has been supported by the #GlobalDevelopmentNetwork (GDN) and the Ministry of Finance, #GovernmentofJapan. Had an opportunity to be part of this amazing panel about Africa in context of synergies of water-energy-food ecosystems particularly from the perspective of food systems and climate change. We covered the great opportunities, challenges and success stories that affect and impact sustainability and contribute to healthy ecosystem from the local communities to national level, regional level and Africa as a whole.
