Where did LEADER come from? And what's still in it for our common future? Within the framework of the transnational LEADER project “Our Common Future” in which LEADER networks came together to conceptualise the future of the LEADER approach, Robert Lukesch was asked to write a paper about the circumstances and conditions from which LEADER arose in the first place. Soon Robert discovered that this fascinating task was not doable without a broader retrospective to the wider context from which LEADER emerged, the evolution along its trajectory through six budget periods, and some conclusive thoughts about its future destiny. This resulted in a treatise of 69 pages. It was presented at the final project meeting in Cheleiros/Mafra in Portugal, on 5 November 2024. 👉 I am reading (as Summer homework!) Plato's Republic. It is amazing because today we always aim to be innovative and original... but we forget lessons from the past that we could apply to really improve things. Specifically, I am reading Book 1 of the Republic, focused on defining 'justice': in synthesis, social good requires virtues. In any organization, virtuous leadership is the answer to improving things. When power dynamics and injustice prevail, Socrates clearly states that things can only end nowhere. In Fall I will integrate Plato's works in my course on Professional Development... and this is paradoxically 'innovation' 😄 Swiss Paraplegic Research Fakultät für Gesundheitswissenschaften und Medizin – Universität Luzern

📚 New publication of LEIZ: “Future Perspectives on Transcultural Leadership” is out now 📚 The LEIZ is pleased to announce another exciting publication. “Future Perspectives on Transcultural Leadership” by Dr. Jessica G. Schwengber, Quratul Aan and Tobias Grünfelder, published by Metropolis, looks at transcultural leadership in our increasingly complex and global world. In order to meet challenges such as wars, pandemics or climate change, new ways of thinking are required. This book is dedicated to the building block of transcultural leadership, which makes it possible to develop common patterns of action across cultures. At the same time, it maintains cultural diversity for broad cooperation across cultures. The authors, a project team from the Transcultural Caravan Network (TCN), provide possible perspectives through the lens of social, political and economic transcultural leadership. Under the direction of the Baden-Württemberg Foundation, the TCN is a project of universities worldwide with the aim of facilitating multilateral research projects for students. “Future Perspectives on Transcultural Leadership” provides current insights into a constantly rotating world with ever new possible futures. Let yourself be carried away and take part in successfully shaping our future! 🌍 The publication is available here: https://lnkd.in/ewYnHjSc #LEIZ #transculturalleadership #transculturalcaravannetwork #badenwuerttembergfoundation

The Erosion of Western Leadership: Time to Look in the Mirror Mehmet Öğütçü – December 26, 2024 This piece wasn’t written on a whim. It was inspired by a conversation with a French author who, in our discussion, kept reiterating the tired clichés of Western universal values, human rights, and its supposed mission to bring democracy and civilization wherever it goes. Frankly, I had enough. I sat down to address the glaring contradictions veiled behind these overused narratives. The Decline of Western Hegemony Despite all its flaws, no one can deny the positive influence of the West on our world and daily lives. Many of the most livable, respectful, and environmentally conscious nations are in the West. Yet, its grip on global dominance is loosening. Together, the United States and the European Union represent approximately 783 million people—merely 10% of the world’s population. By contrast, China’s population alone is nearly double that, at 1.4 billion. Western populations are shrinking, aging, and struggling to compete in technology and affordability. Nonetheless, the West retains significant weight in the global economy, controlling 42% of the world’s GDP—27.3% from the U.S. and 15% from the EU. The Dark Pages of Western History The rise of the West cannot solely be attributed to ingenuity or industriousness. Its ascent was built on the subjugation of other civilizations, the exploitation of natural resources, and the loss of millions of lives. Wealth generated from Africa’s plundered resources, the decimation of indigenous populations in the Americas, and the colonization of Asia financed the Industrial Revolution. The wars of the 20th century, from Vietnam to Iraq and Libya, were initiated or fueled by the West. While…. Continued: https://lnkd.in/dDhS9KGY? Turkish version: https://lnkd.in/d4ewQSyi

Flying off to Toronto today to deliver a presentation on my research, "The Retention of Indigenous Executives in Indigenous Organizations," to a National Indigenous organization. I'm thrilled that Indigenous organizations are eager to apply my findings in practical ways, rather than it just becoming another academic paper. Looking forward to meaningful discussions and impactful collaborations! If your Indigenous organization is interested in receiving a similar presentation, connect with me on LinkedIn. I'd be happy to help on this very important issue. #IndigenousLeadership #ResearchInAction #TorontoBound

The proclamation that "Science is Dead" is not only provocative but also unsettling, especially in a world that relies heavily on scientific advancements. Science, for centuries, has been the bedrock of progress, shaping our understanding of the universe and driving technological and societal advancements. However, in recent years, science faces an existential crisis. This crisis is multi-faceted, encompassing issues such as the reproducibility crisis, diminishing public trust, the politicization of science, and the challenges posed by modern funding and publication practices.
