🌱 📊 From business as usual to sustainable intensification. Modern agriculture faces a dual challenge: increasing productivity while reducing environmental impacts. Agricultural innovations, particularly Smart Farming Technologies (SFT), offer a promising solution by enhancing precision and mitigating risks. But what drives farmers to adopt these technologies? And why do some hesitate? 🎓 In our latest #PhenoRob PhD graduate talk Dr. Philipp Feisthauer talks about “Experimental evidence on the adoption of innovations and robotics for sustainable crop production” and explores the agricultural innovation adoption from multiple perspectives: 1️⃣ A 𝗴𝗹𝗼𝗯𝗮𝗹 𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗺𝗮𝗽 highlights behavioral, attitudinal, and social factors as stronger drivers of SFT adoption than structural or sociodemographic ones. 2️⃣ 𝗘𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗳𝗮𝗿𝗺𝗲𝗿𝘀 reveal that pro-environmental attitudes, innovativeness, and social norms are critical for adoption intentions, while policy scenarios show limited but promising effects. 3️⃣ A 𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗱𝘆 questions using students as proxies for farmers in policy evaluations. 4️⃣ The 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝗼𝗿𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗱 𝗕𝗲𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗶𝗼𝗿 confirms the importance of behavioral factors in driving sustainable practices like spot spraying. 💡 The research emphasizes behavioral insights as key to fostering context-specific policies and driving sustainable intensification in modern agriculture. ✨ Let’s rethink how we approach agricultural policy and innovation to drive sustainable intensification and create a resilient future for farming. 🔍 To learn more about Philipp’s PhD thesis and his findings, click on the link below 👇🏼 https://lnkd.in/evQcwS_z #UniBonn #PhDResearch #SustainableIntensification #DigitalFarming #SmartFarmingTechnologies #AgriculturalEconomics
