For my contacts in the agriculture sector, please check out my latest blog post --> https://bit.ly/48RqH04 🐑 This month we have been focusing on sustainability and the role livestock traceability plays when it comes to protecting and supporting a sustainable farming system to underpin the growing demand on the food supply chain. Digital traceability became paramount in our response to Covid 19. It enabled us to act swiftly, put quarantine and control measures in place and allocate resources accordingly. The Livestock Information Service (LIS) holds similar principles for controlling disease outbreaks in livestock. Improving the quality and timeliness of livestock traceability data will shape our approach to future disease outbreaks in agriculture, ensure food integrity and support informed decision making to build a stronger, smarter future for livestock producers. #agriculture #pr #blog #sustainability

For generations, my family has been involved in livestock farming. While the core principles remain the same, the way we manage our herds has drastically changed. The digital age has ushered in a new era of precision and efficiency.Erratic weather patterns disrupt grazing cycles and impact feed production. We believe data-driven insights can help farmers adapt and build resilience. This empowers them to make informed decisions about feed adjustments and livestock sales, mitigating the impact of unpredictable conditions.By embracing technology and empowering farmers with knowledge, we can ensure a future where food security is strengthened, livelihoods are improved, and our agricultural practices are sustainable for generations to come.

TOP LIVESTOCK TECHNOLOGIES IMPROVING ANIMAL HUSBANDRY Livestock provides essential renewable natural resources that we rely on daily. These include proteins, dairy products, and organic manure for plants. As a result, the demand for livestock products is increasing globally. Making it a valuable source of income for many communities. Approximately 70% of Africa’s population depend on livestock farming for their livelihoods. This why understanding the dynamic landscape of animal husbandry and how it is being shaped by technological advancement is essential. Traditionally, livestock management is labour intensive. But, recent trends have shown that livestock technologies are revolutionizing the industry. This enables more efficient and data-driven production systems. In this article we will consider 4 of these livestock technologies shaping the livestock production industry. Let’s get started! Top Livestock Technologies Various livestock technologies are improving the way farmers manage and care for animals. 4 of these technologies include; 1. Precision Feeding Systems Precision feeding, like precision farming is a modern approach to livestock management. It focuses on meeting the nutritional needs of animals with precision. It also ensures their well-being, and optimises productivity. It uses advanced technologies like mechanics, automation, electronics, and information technology to measure individual animal traits. These include body weight, feed intake, and feeding behavior. This data is then used to make custom rations for each animal. The rations are based on their specific needs at different stages of production. Additionally, precision feeding systems often include automated feeders. They deliver the right amount of feed based on each animal’s requirements. This reduces waste and improves the efficiency of the feeding process. Precision feeding can also help farmers optimize their feeding strategies. It can reduce the environmental impact of livestock production, and bolster the health and productivity of animals.
