Pet food brand Meatly has become the first European company to receive regulatory approval for selling cultivated meat for pet food in the UK. Meatly's production facility has been approved to produce and handle cultivated chicken. The company worked closely with FSA, DEFRA and APHA to ensure compliance, with extensive safety testing conducted on its cultivated chicken product. CEO Owen Ensor has expressed pride in this achievement, stating, "we are proving that there is a safe and low-capital way to rapidly bring cultivated meat to market." Cultivated meats in EU - here we go!? GOURMEY has announced the filing of an application for approval of its cultivated foie gras with the the European Commission (EC) and European Food Safety Authority (EFSA). This is the first application for a cultivated meat product in Europe. Last autumn, The Cultivated B had entered the pre-submission phase with its hybrid sausage product, but the company has not officially filed for approval yet. I'd be curious to hear your opinion: given that "real" foie gras is a highly controversial product – is it a stroke of genius to start the process in EU with it? Will it help accelerate decision making? Private Equity losing millions in the pet food industry: I see new brands all the time and footnotes of funding rounds that make no sense. - Beef lung companies raising £2m + (in a saturated market) - Yet another salmon oil company. - More dog/cat food delivery services offering several product boxes for nothing. The list goes on and on. There are no brains behind most of these businesses. - The companies they try to build have no moat. - Their cost of capital well exceeds their return on capital. - By discounting so much, they devalue their product. Some of these businesses are total cr*ap also, as they add things in pet food that do not belong in it. Sugar derivatives are a big pet peeve of ours.
