EUDR Enforcement Delayed – But Action Can’t Wait! The EU Parliament has just voted to give companies one extra year to comply with anti-deforestation rules—new deadline: 30 Dec 2025. Why this matters: • 420 million hectares of forest (larger than the EU!) lost between 1990–2020. • EU consumption drives 10% of global deforestation. • Hopefully, the intend of the EU will be an example for many others. What businesses should do now: • Use this extra year to strengthen supply chain transparency. • Proof legal compliance. • Perform value chain due diligence risk assessments. • Prioritise sustainability measures to hit compliance ahead of the curve. 4wAt least the category "no risk" is thankfully not included. That would have been THE loophole. I am in the midst of retail tenders (purely price) every day. Of providers of sustainable or of cheap fake sustainable products. Knowing how things work in retail, nothing much will change in the next 12 months; we'll continue with deforestation for dirt cheap, as long as EUDR is not enforced.
