👷♂️ What Do Field Engineers Really Do? 🔧
Ever wondered what it’s like to be a Field Engineer?
Field Engineers are the backbone of construction projects, ensuring that everything runs smoothly on-site. Here's a sneak peek into their key responsibilities:
🔍 Problem Solvers: Field engineers identify and troubleshoot issues in real-time, making sure the project stays on track.
🛠️ Hands-On Expertise: They’re the bridge between the design and the construction teams, ensuring that what’s on paper becomes reality.
📋 Quality Control: From checking measurements to ensuring compliance with safety standards, they keep an eye on every detail.
📊 Coordination & Communication: Field engineers coordinate with various teams, making sure everyone is aligned, and the project meets deadlines.

Are you a groundworks or civils company experiencing any of the following headaches…..?
- difficulty in finding a good engineer when you need one
- engineers not lasting too long with your company (whether you get rid of them or they leave)
- setting out errors (whether by your own engineers or agency engineers)
- paying high salaries or rates for engineers, which you don’t feel reflect the value you are getting in return
If so, Setting Out For Construction can help in several ways:
1. We can provide training to your engineers and/ or other members of your site team to help reduce errors or to reduce your dependency on temporary engineers
2. We can provide you with a Site Engineer. While they are working on your site, in parallel to their normal Site Engineering duties and responsibilities they will set up systems and processes for you, train members of your site team to carry out certain tasks, and ensure you are making the best use of technology. Our aim is to help you be self-sufficient in the shortest possible time, and not dependent on us in the long term.
3. We can work with your senior managers to help you recruit and retain excellent engineers of your own, develop the knowledge and skills in-house to be able to manage and supervise setting out activities from a position of strength and help you get all the necessary systems and processes in place to minimise errors and improve efficiency.
4. We can provide mentoring and/or technical support (remote or on-site) to your engineers
Or…. Any combination of the above.
Drop me a message if you’d like to have a chat. It will be a good use of your time even if you don’t feel you need to work with us in the end. I will give you whatever pointers I can and if that’s enough for you to go and get on with it yourself, that’s great 😊

"Great Projects Are Built Together" 👷♂️🏗️
In construction, no project is ever a one-man show. It takes the seamless coordination of main contractors, sub-contractors, suppliers, and engineers working hand-in-hand to bring plans from paper to reality.
Over the past two years, I’ve learned that teamwork, communication, and understanding across different stakeholders is the backbone of every successful project. When challenges arise—whether it’s piping shortages or precise alignment of steam turbines and generators—it's the synergy between teams that makes solutions possible.
Here's what I've found essential when working with contractors and partners:
✅ Clear Communication – Keeping everyone aligned ensures we can react fast when plans shift.
✅ Mutual Respect – Everyone’s role, whether main contractor or sub-contractor, is critical to the big picture.
✅ Proactive Problem-Solving – The best solutions emerge when we tackle issues together, without blaming but focusing on progress.
When the main contractor and sub-contractors collaborate seamlessly, obstacles become opportunities, and projects are delivered with excellence. I feel privileged to be part of these dynamic teams, where every challenge we overcome strengthens our bond and drives us toward a common goal.
Because at the end of the day, a project isn’t built by individuals—it’s built by a team working together. Let’s continue building more, stronger, and better—as one. 💪🏢

This video was recorded last year by my dear colleague. As shown in the video, we executed a 20 kV double-circuit, double-bundled overhead power line with telescopic towers in this project. At this stage, we were conducting the stringing operation for the transmission line.
Before starting the stringing process, we obtained all necessary permits, including:
• Shutdown permits for the existing power lines in conflict,
• HSE approvals,
• Road closure permits,
• Crane lifting permits and submission of the lifting plan,
• Regional security clearances,
• And finally, the work execution permit.
One of the main challenges we faced was properly stabilizing the towers to prevent mechanical forces exceeding the allowable limits from being applied to them. Additionally, clearing the cars from the operational site and ensuring complete protection of the environment were critical aspects during execution.
Coordinating the execution teams at the two towers’ locations for conductor marking and performing tensioning in several stages was managed by the project supervisors and the engineering team, including myself.
Time constraints were a major challenge, and achieving precise conductor crimping was particularly demanding.
Despite all these challenges, thanks to the tremendous efforts of the team, we successfully completed the work within the limited time frame during which we had permits for power line shutdown and road closure.
