[#Coaching Series] As we passed first few days of June 2024, I reflect on the journey of these two young gentlemen who have spent around six months #internship with us, closely working with our front desk deal team. It's rare for me to call upon a student for help, but Skye Chor was an exception. I set a goal for him: “Do something advanced and different.” During his second internship this half a year, he didn’t fail his words. I introduced him as an analyst in external meetings because he had already earned that title through his hard work and quality of work. We often talked about the importance of transformation. "Become another you by the end of your time here, or you’re f____," a real diaglogue when Thomas Tang joined us in early 2024. I could tell he was really tramaudised by the first pitch meeting with a biotech company, where he didn’t have prior knowledge. However, over five months, he grew into someone who could confidently host decent conversations with these sector experts. As our territory pushes hard on innovation and celebrates entrepreneurship, we must equally put efforts in venture capitalists. We need to groom and train more quality talents to join this field. These individuals must be #fearless in embracing new knowledge and technology, able to dive deep quickly without reluctance, and possess a holistic and visionary view over the projects and sectors, who won’t shake his/her backbone by a few questions easily. They need to think both bottom-up and top-down, be self motivated. There are thousands of reasons we could turn down project investments, but what’re the reasons we leaping forward ? It’s harsh — but we insist to take training of the youth seriously. As summer breezes in, I hope they have gained enough to continue their journey.
