This is what responsible healthcare augmentation with AI looks like! Another key element, ensuring health equity and access to innovations for better health outcomes for ALL!
At Google we're committed to supporting entrepreneurs and high potential startups drive the responsible development of AI healthcare solutions. Earlier In February @Google for Startups announced the second edition of the Growth Academy: AI for Health program and I am honored to serve on the advisory board. More than 500 startups from Europe, Africa and the Middle East applied and today, we are pleased to announce the startups who have been hand selected as part of the program. Meet the startups → https://goo.gle/3X7kKKe I had the distinct pleasure of being in Paris for our launch event hosted at the impressive PariSanté Campus. Meeting the startups founders was inspiring and I wish them all success! Thank you to Google's own Yuval Passov for hosting a fireside chat where I was joined by Antoine Tesniere whose expertise and vision will surely be a major factor in France's successful leadership in health AI. The always impressive Joëlle Barral followed us with an outstanding keynote sharing Google's progress in building Generative AI models to support science and medicine including Alphafold and Med-Gemini.

🔬 Yesterday's work delved into the intricate topic of chorioamnionitis—an inflammation of the fetal membranes with potentially severe implications for both mother and baby. It's a subject close to my heart, considering my decades-long dedication to women's health and my extensive background as a lecturer in anatomy and embryology. Yesterday I was researching the impact of multiple vaginal examinations and prolonged labor on chorioamnionitis. I was asking how it can lead to various complications, including neurological and respiratory issues for the baby, and even, in some cases, tragic outcomes. For the mother, the risks range from endometrial inflammation to sepsis, respiratory distress, and rarely, mortality. My role as a consultant to a stealth biotech company allows me to leverage my passion and expertise in women's health to drive innovation and progress in the field. With over 20 years of experience in academia and a track record of navigating the complexities of research and teaching, I am well-equipped to support startups like yours in crafting compelling narratives for investors, collaborators, and clients. If you're looking to harness the power of science and storytelling to propel your startup forward, I'm here to help. Let's collaborate to elevate your vision and impact. Feel free to reach out—I'm excited to hear from you! 🚀 WRAP UP - Healthcare Innovation Unveiled: A Sneak Peek 🚀 Thank you to everyone who joined us on July 11th for an exciting dive into the #future of #healthcare with Prof. Silvestro Micera in an #inspiring conversation led by Prof. Alberto Redaelli! 🌟 Here are the key points that emerged from our discussion: 🔬 Emerging #Neurotechnologies: We are starting to see the first impactful results from patients treated and implanted with neurotechnologies. Beyond stimulating electrodes for treating #psychiatric #disorders like depression and Parkinson's, there is immense potential in applying these technologies to #metabolic disorders and #inflammatory diseases such as diabetes, obesity, and inflammatory bowel disease. 🌐 #Ethical Considerations: While #dual-use concerns are not immediate, it is crucial to begin #regulating this sector now to prevent potential misuse in the future. 💡 #Transitioning from Lab to Market: Successful transition of these disruptive technologies requires interaction with informed #investors and innovative #corporations. However, the risk of "killer #acquisitions" must be considered. #Research #hospitals and public #institutions play a pivotal role, particularly in Italy, in validating these technologies and making them economically sustainable through #welfare #policies. 🚀 #Startup and Spin-Off Creation: The creation of startups and spin-offs is essential for advancing and #derisking neurotechnologies. Becoming a #tech #entrepreneur requires a diverse skill set that should be cultivated early in the #education process, though it remains highly dependent on hands-on experience. Thank you, Prof. Silvestro Micera, for sharing your insights and inspiring us all and to you, Prof. Alberto Redaelli for leading us in this journey at the forefront of innovation. Here’s to a future where technology continues to revolutionize healthcare and improve lives! 🌟 Silvia Barbera Fortuna Silvia Ceragioli Giorgio Di Dato Elena Lo Baido Elena Sambugaro Matteo Bruno, EMBA Michela Cristofolini Gabriele Saccardo Natascia Colantoni Giorgia Di Massimo Emanuele Lettieri Paolo Locatelli POLIMI Graduate School of Management Alumni POLIMI Graduate School of Management #make #connect #ignite #shapingpurposefulfuture

The increase in AI investment is no surprise, but the three-year decline in digital health might be. Digital health funding and deals have declined annually since 2021, with 2024 seeing $10.1 billion across 497 deals—a 6.5% drop in funding from 2023. However, AI-enabled digital health startups bucked the trend, seeing a slight funding increase to $3.7 billion. The decline in mega deals and a focus on early-stage funding contributed to the overall decrease. Sectors like mental health, cardiovascular, oncology, and weight management received the highest funding. https://lnkd.in/esCpag87 #LifeSciences #AI #DigitalHealth #InvestmentTrends #HealthTech #Startups #Innovation #FundingTrends #MentalHealth #Cardiovascular #Oncology #WeightManagement #EarlyStageFunding

“Old school meets new school.” In our latest #WeekendWatch, Paul A. Campbell, CEO & Co-Founder of Moneta Health, sums up the core of his #HealthTech venture in his interview with Logan Plaster (StartUp Health). By using the traditional landlines, Moneta has created easy access to care for elders with cognitive impairment. Through seamless integration of their AI health assistant with their human therapist, Moneta has been able to create a sense of connection for elderly patients with cognitive impairment, radically improving the standard of care they receive. That’s just one brilliant aspect of their go-to-market strategy. Moneta Health operates in “neurology deserts”; areas with high patient demand but limited primary care and neurology capacity. They also made sure to build a product which qualified for Medicare reimbursement. These were amongst the many reasons we invested in them. The experience of the leadership team, clarity of thought, and a sound business model made them extremely #VentureBackable.
