AI is transforming care in oncology by making healthcare more equitable, efficient, and patient-centred: 1. AI is being leveraged to tackle issues of equity and bias in oncology care. The technology is seen as a crucial tool in ensuring that advancements in cancer treatment and diagnostics are accessible to all patients, including those from underrepresented or underserved communities. 2. Integrating AI technologies in oncology aims to enhance clinical efficiency, allowing healthcare professionals to deliver better care with fewer resources. AI can process vast amounts of data much faster than humans, providing oncologists with insights and information to help them make informed decisions quickly. 3. AI is also seen as a means to bring back the human touch in healthcare. By automating administrative tasks and streamlining data analysis, AI frees healthcare professionals to spend more time on direct patient care. 4. AI has the potential to expedite drug discovery and development processes, making it faster and more efficient to bring new treatments to market. This acceleration could improve outcomes for all cancer patients by ensuring more people have access to the latest treatments and clinical trials, thereby addressing inequities in clinical research participation. While we can be proud of the progress in oncology, especially in AI's role in transforming care, our focus moving forward must be on ensuring equitable access to these advances for every patient, irrespective of where they live. Let's continue to push the boundaries of innovation while also striving to bridge the disparities in cancer care access and outcomes. #WatchThisSpace #CancerCare #OncologyInnovation #AIinHealthcare #EquityInHealthcare #LinkMedicalSolutions Article by Jo Cavallo https://lnkd.in/eg_MrXp2

AI in Medical Imaging: Making Cancer Screening Faster, Cheaper, and More Accessible Cancer diagnosis remains a daunting reality, with nearly 40% of the world’s population facing it in their lifetime. Emmy Gal, founder of Ezra, aims to revolutionize cancer detection by offering full-body MRI scans powered by AI, addressing the need for early and accessible cancer screening. With a significant shortage of radiologists, AI serves as a crucial tool to assist in faster, more consistent diagnoses, moving cancer care from reactive treatment to proactive prevention. The discussion broadens into the transformative role of AI in healthcare, particularly in medical imaging, predictive diagnostics, and contact center support. By 2030, the AI healthcare market is anticipated to surge dramatically, as it enables personalized treatment, reduces human error, and expands access to preventive care. While challenges such as data privacy and AI ethics persist, the future holds immense promise, with AI not only enhancing diagnostics but also tackling complex issues like climate change, offering revolutionary potential in human health and environmental sustainability. I recently had an "aha moment" while attending a class in the AI in Healthcare course at MIT Sloan School of Management. Like many, I joined the course to learn about the latest technologies. But during a lecture by Professor Regina Barzilay, I discovered my "why." In cancer care, most treatment decisions are based on evidence generated through clinical trials. But here’s the surprising part: these trials include only about 3% of all cancer patients (Bennet et al., 2000). Let that sink in. 3%. God forbid, if you or your loved ones were battling cancer, the treatments being recommended would be based on data from that tiny fraction of patients. Think about that. Now imagine what’s possible if AI could unlock the vast amounts of data already in our healthcare systems—data from the other 97% of patients. This could pave the way for more personalized, effective, and inclusive clinical decision-making. Yes, there are challenges. AI must be made as safe and trustworthy as clinical trials. But this represents a huge opportunity to transform healthcare. By embracing both evidence-based care and predictive AI for decision support, we can achieve better outcomes for all. And no—robots are not going to replace doctors. But they can empower them with better tools and insights for decision "support." My take on Evidence-based vs Predictive AI in Healthcare https://lnkd.in/gvac8MgQ
