How democratic is a country if women aren’t equally represented? On #InternationalDayOfDemocracy, we highlight that women's rights are a key measure of a functioning democracy. When women can vote, run for office, and live free from oppression, democracy thrives. Let's push for a future where women’s rights are not a question, but a guarantee. #girlimpact #globaljustice #tonigarrnfoundation

The time is now. The future is female. Our current political situation in our own country is fueling much more than inequality between genders. The lack of responsibility as a unified nation to act with accountably, and punish the guilty (especially those who were chosen as our universal voice of liberty and justice move us all closer to the edge of no return in respect). Each day we allow those in high governmental and religious positions who believe they speak as the 'one true voice of our nation because they are at the top rung (of their own minds), of being the superiority leaders in history when their very decisions are proving they are not fit to serve. However, they are speaking out about religion and political policy issues with misinformation in order to cover their own errors of judging their peers. All leaders, no matter where they serve, need to take a refresher course in their own job description, which is why, there should be term limits on every govermnent job, and accountability minimums for every elected or appointed leader going forward.
On Women's Equality Day, we're reminded that the fight for true equality continues. This is why AAUW supports publication of the Equal Rights Amendment. Join us in urging Congress to affirm the ERA. Your voice matters in this crucial step towards constitutional equality. Take action now: Send a letter to your member of Congress: https://lnkd.in/gddFRZ_7 #EqualRightsAmendment #WomensEqualityDay

There are currently 50 women among the state’s 120 legislators in both the Senate and the state Assembly. With this election, that total number will be at least 55 and as many as 60. The state Assembly currently has 32 women, though eight will leave this year due to term limits or to switch to the Senate. The Assembly will see a net gain of at least four women and as many as seven. The increase in women’s representation is part of a historic level of turnover in the Legislature, with at least 30 new members, and as many as 36. https://lnkd.in/gvB2Y7vA

The Committee highlighted that the 30% target for women’s representation in decision-making is outdated, as it implies gender inequality is acceptable—a stance that contradicts the Convention's goal of eliminating discrimination against women! Yet, progress remains slow. As of September, women hold only 27% of seats in national parliaments, 35% in local governments, and just 28.2% of management roles in the labor market. In 2022, women made up only 16% of peace negotiators, and a mere 33% of peace agreements included provisions for women or girls. The push for full equality is more urgent than ever. Real progress calls for bold, sustained commitment and for raising the bar beyond outdated targets. #GenderEquality #WomenInLeadership #RepresentationMatters
