United by a shared mission: to exchange experiences, learn from each other, and honor the progress made in safeguarding our #oceans. For many, the ocean is more than just a vast expanse of water. It is home to a variety of species. It provides food in form of fisheries, serves as a vital channel for transport and communication, support renewable energy production, and even plays a role in defense among other uses. Yet today, our oceans are facing challenges like never before—impacted by human activities and the undeniable force of climate change. Marine Spatial Planning #MSP offers us a path forward—a governance tool designed to manage human use of marine spaces while supporting the sustainable development of our marine environment. But for #MSP to succeed, it demands the full participation of all stakeholders, the alignment of diverse interests, and the integration of cross-sector policies. At the heart of it all, we rely on the power of shared scientific evidence to guide us. Together, we can ensure that the ocean remains a thriving resource for generations to come. #marineplan #MSPgreen #REGINA-MSP
The Marine Institute were well represented within the Irish delegation at today's European Commission / EU Marine Spatial Planning Platform Stakeholder Conference. The Conference celebrates a decade since implementation of the EU MSP Directive. Today's agenda considered: • Opportunities to enhance cooperative approaches to MSP; • Data, Innovation, and Harmonisation within MSP; and, • The future of MSP in the context of the European Green Deal and the imminent European Ocean Pact. These are crucial considerations to better safeguard precious marine environments whilst enabling their sustainable and harmonious use by maritime industries and society. Congratulations to colleagues in the Department of the Environment, Climate and Communications on their contributions, and to the Marine Institute's Robert Runya, Ph.D and Michael Arrigan on their excellent presentations. #DecadeMSP

Happy Earth Day! One of the ways EWEB celebrates is by sharing new versions of our Climate Guidebook. The Climate Guidebook demonstrates how EWEB is implementing our Board-approved Climate Change Policy across. Some highlights of the updated version include: · EWEB reduced its internal operational GHG emissions by 54% from 2010 to 2023. That means that last year we met and exceeded our 2030 goal of a 50% reduction in operational emissions over our 2010 baseline. · EWEB is on track with our voluntary commitments included in City of Eugene’s Climate Action Plan 2.0, with 14 of 15 goals fully implemented. · In 2023, EWEB worked with our customers to achieve 14,320 MWh of energy efficiency, exceeding our annual energy conservation goal by nearly 7%! · As an EWEB customer, you’re already using clean, renewable energy and investing in McKenzie Watershed protection. But together we can do more! Watch EWEB Climate Policy Analyst Kelly Hoell’s presentation of the of the Climate Guidebook 2.0 and conversation with Commissioners: https://lnkd.in/gd_G6MbG

🌟 Exciting News! 🌟 The Interreg Danube Region Programme Monitoring Committee has recently approved 36 new #SMFprojects, marking a significant step forward in our collaborative efforts towards sustainable development and innovation. These bodies comprise representatives from all partner countries. DRP also supports the implementation of the Danube Region Strategy. Among these promising initiatives, I'm thrilled to underscore the IDEAM NBS project, a key contributor to the EUSDR PA5 on #naturebasedsolutions. This project is set to revolutionize our approach to #environmentalsustainability by integrating innovative nature-based strategies. Additionally, the DANURELY-WS project, developed by the Global Water Partnership - Central and Eastern Europe (GWP-CEE), is making remarkable strides in water management and regional cooperation. The selected project proposal creates strategically aligned youth-targeted activities supporting the EUSDR Strategy Action Points of the Priority areas PA4 (Water Quality), PA5 (Environmental Risks), PA7 (Knowledge Society) in a mid-term, and through partners and Danube Youth Council Members is linked to PA 1A(Waterways Mobility) and PA9 (People & Skills). This initiative promises to enhance water security and resilience in our communities. Congratulations to all the teams involved in these groundbreaking projects! Let's continue to drive positive change and foster sustainable solutions for our future. 🌍🚀 You can check to other selected projects on the link! ⤵ #Sustainability #Innovation #NatureBasedSolutions #WaterManagement #EUSDR #GWPCEE #SMFProjects
