A bit late to the party with this after being away. However, Tech Nation released their 2024 report last week and here are some of the highlights: - UK tech sector reached a valuation of $1.1 trillion in Q1 2024 - UK tech sector #1 in Europe - $21.3bn raised by UK Tech startups in 2023 - 16% of total UK VC investment went to AI startups in Q1 2024 - Q1 2024 the biggest quarterly UK fundraise to date ($50.2bn) With 1,800+ AI startups backed by VCs & 20 AI unicorns in the UK, it's clear that AI continues to grow in importance, with the UK being a very exciting place to be!

Europeʼs ambition of tech sovereignty is not attainable in AI as European AI startups cannot currently scale globally without US big tech investment. 80% of European AI startup funding rounds of $250M+ are non-European investors, mostly US big tech money. European AI startups need this backing to scale globally, access distribution, and compute power. The problem is it increases US big tech dominance and thwarts European ambitions to get ahead of them. 11 of the top 20 scientific tech clusters are in Europe and the ‘New Palo Alto’ European region is the world’s second innovation ecosystem. Even if European innovation creates a challenger startup to US big tech, they will simply open their cavernous purse and co-opt it. #startups #innovation #AI

The Italian Tech Week was quite an experience (and what a venue!) with energy, vibes and the (not anymore so vague) belief that Italy can build a healthy ecosystem for startups, digital nomads and investments. Through various panels, interviews and super interesting topics/discussions around AI, investing and startups - Sam Altman stole the stage but it wasn’t just that - some common elements raised quite clearly, such as: . Build with a broader (EU) landscape, solve a larger scale problem . Small markets could even be an advantage, being closer to the few initial customers . Let the investments flow, changing the “low attitude to risk” in Italy/EU vs US (failing is crucial and much needed, don’t shy away from it but embrace it) AI is a powerful tool to make all this happen, let’s leverage on it and make everyday obstacles obsolete. #ai #product #startups

A very important post for founders to see. Product market fit is critical for companies to establish. While perseverance is important, measuring market fit with objectivity is critical as startup often ignore signs and insist they are right. The ultimate test for market fit is when customers are ready to pay / adopt and use the product enthusiastically leading to sustainable revenue growth.

It’s no coincidence to us that Tinders PMF was immediate… Who would have thought people are willing to meet strangers? 1) Tinder acts as a middleman, the platform main objective is for people to join the app and connect people to people near them. 2) It’s a business that their objective was to see value in relationship, romantic relationships but still relationship. 3) Right Time, Right Placement…. Tinder focused on the people looking for their product college students and college campuses, in a time where social media wasn’t connecting us as we hoped. 4) User friendly UI… Swiping Right is Yes … Swiping Left is No! How simple is that? 5) Control over who you meet… “you may want to meet me but maybe i don’t want to meet you”. We at BLU have studied them quite a bit, and their success. At the time filled a vacuum for the people most in need; to people who suffered quietly; college students! The rest is history to be studied, replicated and improve upon.
