#NewsUpdate | Air India pioneers in-flight Wi-Fi on domestic routes Air India announced it has rolled out Wi-Fi internet connectivity services on board domestic and international flights operated by Airbus A350, Boeing 787-9 and select Airbus A321neo aircraft. This makes Air India the first to offer in-flight Wi-Fi internet connectivity on flights within India. “Connectivity is now an integral part of modern travel. For some, it is about the convenience and comfort of real-time sharing, while for others, it is about greater productivity and efficiency. Whatever be one’s purpose, we are confident that our guests will appreciate having the option of connecting to the web and enjoy the new Air India experience on board these aircraft,” said Rajesh Dogra, Chief Customer Experience Officer, Air India. Accessible on Wi-Fi-enabled devices such as laptops, tablets, and smartphones with iOS or Android operating systems, the in-flight Wi-Fi will also allow guests to connect multiple devices simultaneously when above 10,000 feet*. Seems obvious eh? Collaboration, or simple basic communications, should not force you to a service running in a far-off place, across n-networks, tiers and tiers of infrastructure only to manage the relationship with your peer that is in your operational proximity. Or worse, not function without that massive network stretch. It is also obvious to me that airlines, a hard customer-focused industry, are one of the early adopters, and successes of true (edge) distributed operations. Where's your focus? A bold statement that I echo with confidence. To say that the introduction of the iPhone dramatically shifted the tech landscape would be an understatement. ✈ Aviation Maintenance Magazine – The Ups and Downs of the P2F Market According to the Airbus Global Market Forecast 2024, the world freighter fleet in service will reach 3,360 aircraft by 2043, up from 2,220 in 2023, with the 2,240 deliveries split between 1,140 for growth and 1,330 for replacement, and 890 remaining in service. For the growth and replacement category, around 1,530 will be conversions. The deliveries are further split into 970 single-aisle (10-40 tons), 880 mid-size widebody (40-80 tons) and 620 large widebody (>80 tons). The 2024-2043 Boeing Commercial Market Outlook does not distinguish between new build and converted freighters but says the fleet will grow from 2,340 to 3,900 aircraft to 2043 and will consist of 1,250 narrowbodies (<40 tons), 785 medium widebodies (40-80 tons) and 810 large widebodies (>80 tons).
