It’s time to begin the installation process of the submerged entry nozzle (SEN): First – safety! I support the weight of the SEN with a bungee cord to prevent it from falling and breaking our mould. Next – I align the threaded holes of the upper tundish nozzle with those of the SEN. Finally – I tighten the three bolts and nuts to secure the SEN in place, and then remove the bungee cord. Now, I can start up our water model to run experiments!

Adjusting burner linkage is easy You just have to know how to adjust it. I can remember when I first started as a service technician the feeling I had when adjusting linkage on a burner and how frustrating it was. I had a sheet similar to this one that had been copied 100 times, and no one knew where it was from, but it kept getting printed off for service technicians. So I remade it. Download it and send it out to your service technicians. You can even print it, but lets be honest, it will get lost in the truck and they will be needing another copy. If you do print it, you could laminate it and store it with the service tech's combustion analyzer so they always have it. Laminated because it is going to be set on the ground and get dirty. Let me know if you want to see anything else for reference sheets or guides. A more in-depth version of this will be included in the Boilearn Foundations of Burner Linkage training course coming out this summer. #boilers #burner #training #steam

𝗗𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝗮 𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗯𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗾𝘂𝗲 𝘄𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗵 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵𝗯𝗼𝗹𝘁𝘀? 🔧🔩 Short answer: Yes. This is a topic which is often brought up with our customers because they’re not sure whether they need to use a calibrated torque wrench. The fact is that with throughbolts, you always should, because it sets the anchor and creates the necessary clamping force to secure the fixture. While it may seem like a small detail, the right tool for the job can make a big difference in the outcome. It's understandable if you're hesitant - they are costly. But having them in your toolbox can save you time and effort in the long run, and most importantly, mitigate the risk of an unsafe installation. ❌ Plus, a calibrated torque wrench is also recommended by industry codes of practice, such as BS 8539:2012+A1:2021. 📃 When budgeting for your M&E support installation tools, don't forget the long-term value. Get it right the first time! 👍

Adding a shim to one side of a reamer can cause runout, which in turn removes more material than the reamer normally would. This information and real-life example demonstrate how runout affects hole sizing with all rotating tools. It is always best to order the right size reamer for a job, but this does work for those times when the work is not critical.

Let’s ’talk the torque’ (Sorry!) The primary purpose of a torque stripe/ torque seal is to provide a quick and unambiguous visual check for the technician to see if the fixing remains tight. If the torque stripe/ seal is broken, then the fixing has become loose. Let’s consider this example from the archives of track bolts showing a rainbow of different coloured torque stripes. Is it clear and unambiguous which colour the technicians are looking for? Does it matter? Is this a good or bad example of torque striping? What would you do at your Attraction? These are questions we ask technicians in our training courses to get them to question WHY we do things.. As always, we’d love to hear your thoughts below 👇
